Guest guest
Bummer, I'm too young for this one. Can someone alert me if they approve a hang nail vaccine. On a serious note, hasn't there been talk that the increase in shingles cases among the elderly could be due to children receiving the chicken pox vaccine as infants? Did I dream that?? Sue M. Guest guest
Vaccine ingredients: ZOSTAVAX* is a lyophilized preparation of the Oka/Merck strain of live, attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The virus was initially obtained from a child with naturally-occurring varicella, then introduced into human embryonic lung cell cultures, adapted to and propagated in embryonic guinea pig cell cultures and finally propagated in human diploid cell cultures (WI-38). Further passage of the virus was performed at Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) in human diploid cell cultures (MRC-5). The cells, virus seeds, virus bulks and bovine serum used in the manufacturing are all tested to provide assurance that the final product is free of adventitious agents. ZOSTAVAX, when reconstituted as directed, is a sterile preparation for subcutaneous administration. Each 0.65-mL dose contains a minimum of 19,400 PFU (plaque-forming units) of Oka/Merck strain of VZV when reconstituted and stored at room temperature for up to 30 minutes. Each dose also contains 31.16 mg of sucrose, 15.58 mg of hydrolyzed porcine gelatin, 3.99 mg of sodium chloride, 0.62 mg of monosodium L-glutamate, 0.57 mg of sodium phosphate dibasic, 0.10 mg of potassium phosphate monobasic, 0.10 mg of potassium chloride; residual components of MRC-5 cells including DNA and protein; and trace quantities of neomycin and bovine calf serum. Guest guest
In other words, each dose contains residual DNA and protein originating from an aborted human fetus. Wonderful. I wonder how many people would roll up their sleeves knowing that this is what they are putting in their arms? Trace material from an abortion. Reminds me of the Premarin story. Millions of women took this hormone replacement therapy blindly based on Dr. recommendations. How many of them would have said no thanks if they knew that Premarin was derived from Pregnant (pre) Mares' (mar) Urine (in). Guest guest
Here's my question about the aborted fetuses used for vaccines: (see below)So even if you are against abortion, why would you be upset that they are using cells from 2 that occured over 35 years ago? At least they were put to good use. As much as I am against vaccines, not ALL vaccines are a bad thing. For example, they use these same cells for Rabies shots. Yes, we should read labels on everything. Diploid cells: " WI-38 came from lung cells from a female fetus of 3-months gestation and MRC-5 was developed from lung cells from a 14-week-old male fetus. Both fetuses were intentionally aborted, but neither was aborted for the purpose of obtaining diploid cells. (6-8). The fetal tissues that eventually became WI-38 and the MRC-5 cell cultures were removed from fetuses that were dead. The cellular biologists who made the cell cultures did not induce the abortions. These two cell strains have been growing under laboratory conditions for more than 35 years. The cells are merely the biological system in which the viruses are grown. These cell strains do not and cannot form a complete organism and do not constitute a potential human being. The cells reproduce themselves, so there is no need to abort additional fetuses to sustain the culture supply. Viruses are collected from the diploid cell cultures and then processed further to produce the vaccine itself. Guest guest
One of my issues with the use of human fetus cells is the complete lack of disclosure and informed consent. I believe there should be more common language used on package inserts and that the less desirable or controversial facts about a drug or vaccines origins should be readily accessible and understandable to a lay person. Instead we have the aborted fetus origins of rubella vaccine and chickenpox vaccine veiled carefully behind the use of mysterious labels of RA27/3, WI-38, MRC-5. I believe we all have free will and if someone chooses to knowingly inject these contents into themselves, that is their choice and they are free to make it. Its the fact that people generally have no idea what's in the shots that's the issue with me. I do imagine more parents would not give these particular shots to their kids if they knew what it contained. I feel the same about use of the word " recombinant. " When I learned that I allowed a genetically engineered virus to be injected into my days old infant I was appalled and aghast. I stay away from those products in my food choices and I choose to stay away from them in medical products too. Others will openly and happily consume genetically modified foods and vaccines and that is their choice. I just choose differently. Guest guest
Okay, now I get where you are coming from on this. Because when I looked up about the fetuses in vaccines I came upon these " god " groups who were appaled and against the use of the aborted fetuses, much in the same way we are about mercury, cyanide, etc. Their websites were telling parents that the vaccines that are loaded with mercury were safe (they actually used that word) because they didn't have aborted fetuses in them. But overall I agree that they should be labeled in layman's terms not medical jargon, even though I am in the medical field.
