Guest guest
I tried writing you about 3 days ago...I dont think I was going to say anything the others havent mentioned but I *really* suggest that anybody that has*limited mobility* should bring an assistant with them. Transfers in/out of the seat from the isle chair can be very tricky. Its really cramped and we sat in bulk head seating which is the frst row after first class. I had to have my suction machine and my Servce Dog lay down on my feet and on our way hme the lady asked if we minded to be bumped up to first class at no additional fees ..Heck no- we dont mind one bit! BUMP US! Im going on a cruse in January 2011..Cant wait!  GoodLuck on your Adventure! My longest flight has been around 10 hours, and for me (SMA type 2, powerchair) it was pretty hard on my body sitting that long in an airline seat not custom to my body like my chair, and also airline restrooms are not at all accessible and quite tiny, so unless it were an emergancy, I couldnt use the restroom, and if so would have needed to be carried or aile chair to get there with assistance in (not offered by airline staff)... but I have to say, Ive done shorter fliflights alone and could have done this one alone if i HAD to - mainly I need repositioning in my seat on a long flight, as my mobility is limited... I think where there's a will theres a way...think creative... many of my flights id simply ask a fellow passenger to reach something, and staff was so nice in the US... but I dont have much international experience.. . I think you knw your bodies limits if you know what youre getting into.... consider how you will transfer, if you will need to use the restroom how will this be done, is there any way a friend/pca/family member could fly along at least for a first trip... I think sometimes challenges can seem overwhelming but we all seem to far surpass what others think we can do... if you want to get there, you'll find a way... and I wish you an awesome time there! LB > > hello all, im planning a trip to the philliphines. ..and its a 22 hour flight, ive never flown anywhere. does anyone know if someone with SMA can fly alone? do they lift you to your seat, or do we fly in our wheelchair? if not, where does our chair go while flying? any advice people give me, i would greatly appreciate.. .thanks, >
