Guest guest
Yes , it is hard to find stuff in the " big " cities too. I am good at adapting though. I love cheese so I will have a few of the part skim mozzarella cheese strings that my kids like with an equal amount of carbs in wasa crackers. Each of those cheese strings have 60 calories, 4 g fat, 1 carb and 6 g protein. It's good for a take along like yesterday when I had to drive my son to a doc appt in Toronto (an hour drive, then the wait at the office, then the hour home) and I know I won't be near somewhere to grab something healthy. One of my daughter's lives in Mississauga and I have shopped with here there. I am amazed at some of the stuff you can buy there that will never in a thousand years get to a shelf near me. I live in a village...LOL I'll keep on looking though. Dianne
Guest guest
IGa, No Frills, Dominion and Loblaws have low fat cheese strings - I think it's either Black Diamond or Kraft. You can also buy low fat cream cheese, and light cheddar, etc. at both No Frills and IGA. IGA, the larger ones, and Dominion and the Loblaws Supestores have things like Bob's Big Red Mill Flaxmeal and Flax and Golden Flax and just about every other 'weird' whole grain there is, quinoa, and various barleys, etc.. Look in the organic food sections. You'll find flax oil there as well. Egg whites are where the eggs are. Sugar-free 'maple' syrup is available in all the major stores as well, but you can't get things like DaVinci syrups unfortunately. Some health food stores carry them though, or similar things. Also, some coffee places have the sugar-free syrups. Shoppers Drug Mart carries some good protein powders - I like Nu-Life's WheyDelicious the best. I do find it hard to find to soy-less protein bars though, so I don't bother with them. Occasionally I make my own. What else ya looking for? Guest guest
Thanks Scout. I will travel into the city and have a look at those stores for what I want. We used to have an IGA but it got closed down in order to allow a Sobees to open. They have the Red Mill oats and stuff - I got my ground flax meal there. They don't have oil but I buy my flax seed oil capsules at Costco along with my glucosamine which I am taking to help with my crackling knees. Guest guest
I get my multi & glucosamine at Costco, plus I decided to try the CLA as well for one bottle anyway. Also, I saw the EAS whey protein tthere at a decet price for a huge tub, but it was only chocolate and I wanted vanilla to be able to add to cooking and stuff and didn't think chocolate was the way to go for the first time....LOL. We don't have a loblaws even in St. Catharines anymore I don't think. Everything down here seems to be Zehrs or Sobees. Zehrs seems to have a better selection of low fat things, although low fat usually means a higher sugar content and I tend to stay away from that stuff. I love my fresh fruit and veggies and I like the selections that we have here locally. Guest guest
I've been using Sugar Twin Brown Sugar. > > What a wealth of knowledge you are! I was waiting to hear the response to this post too as I live in Alberta. I am patiently waiting for the South Beach foods to come to Canada. I would really like to try some of them for my lunches at work. Has anyone heard anything? And for Diet Rite sweetened with Splenda we can only get it in cans yet at our IGA. The guy working there said it hasn't come out in bottles yet. I also am waiting for the Sweet and low brown sugar or is it splenda brown sugar? > > Celine > >
Guest guest
After I posted I had wished I had included my thoughts on this product, so thanks for asking. It does have an after-taste. I don't use it as much as I used to because I started baking my sweet potatoes instead of microwaving them. For whatever reason the sweet potatoes are so good plain or with spray butter only when I bake them. When I microwave them I put spray butter and the Sugar Twin brown sugar. I don't like it near as well. I also don't know of any other product like this, so hopefully someone else will chime in. dj > > > > What a wealth of knowledge you are!
