I hate FOS since it made Sam's parasite grow so big and strong - grhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it sounds such good stuff when you read about it.

How is she feeling in herself - can she explain to you? Have her poops changed?

She can't explain. She talks a lot but only round in circles if you know

what I mean. She seems edgy but not impossibly so. Lots of energy --

lots of force, effort -- so the physical things we do have got better --

she puts more effort into them rather than just be floppy. What my Mum

used to call " driven " . Lost some sort of peace in herself. Brain

agitation. What finally spooked me was watching her play a computer

game, listen to music, sing along and hold a disjointed conversation

with herself at the same time. She seemed so harassed. Thanks

Further on poops -- they got better -- not smelly, dark brown rather

than yellow, more regular stopped floating -- when I added digestive

enzymes. Adding FOS seemed to make her go more often, twice a day and

she seemed to be experiencing some sort of pain which was cured by going

to the loo but it seemed quite intense. So bearing your remark in mind,

I cut out FOS

Fruct-oligosaccharides -- supposed to feed good bacteria in your lower

bowel. I think that it is soluble fibre which is not digested until it

gets to the lower bowel, where, in theory only good bacteria can feed on

it. In so doing they increase in numbers etc. Soluble fibre is also

found in stuff like porage oats. And Fos is found naturally in things

like artichokes (that people with autism don't eat very often). I'm not

necessarily blaming it. I have only put in small amounts startin g with

half a teaspoonful a day. I got upto one teaspoonful and didn't increase

it because I wasn't happy with how things were going. May not be FOS

causing the problems. As Mandi says it's only supposed to do good things

This sounds a bit like our son before we went SCD. his bms changed

together with his behaviour once we cut out complex carbs. it sounds as

if she is making gains which are partly masked by yeast or bacterial

overgrowth. you might want to consider giving that diet a try. maybe

also a good bacterial like OLE.

what is Pancreatin?

Pancreatin is digestive enzymes similar to those made by the pancreas.

It's actually made from animal digestive enzymes to substitute for a non

or under working pancreas. I tried it because 's book in

an off hand moment describes the poo of someone who can't digest fats

(which is what the pancreas does) and says that they are pale, soft,

full of air and float. That was my daughter's poo. AR says give these

enzymes, I did and I haven't seen her pooh since ie it sinks and is

flushed away. It also stopped being smelly (so for a time I wondered

whether she had simply stopped going) and she stopped being so hun gry

all the time. Previously she would eat a fatty meal and behave as if she

has eaten nothing. So all in all I believe in the Pancreatin. There are

lots of other digestive enzymes. Mandi sells lots. Pancreatin is

recommended as part of the Yasko protocol but I didn't know that when I

tried it. There is a whole book called Enzymes for Autism by

DeFelice which I haven't read yet but have just got as a freebie for

joining Autism is Treatable. I will think hard about your remarks about

something masking gains because you are right, that is very much what it

feels like

Hi Sally our dr says that zinc should be given at different times to

calcium - I do cal in the morning and zinc at night. Calcium and

madnesium are good together - we give a supplement called cal mag

which is a mixture of the two.

Brilliant thank you. I'm actually giving the zinc with breakfast which

is milky porage so I will shift it. In fact I will swap it with the

magnesium and do possible good instead of possible ill
