I went to Costco today because we needed a ton of scotch tape, since my tapeaholic kids use so much of it. While I was there I wandered over to where I'd seen the ball and band workout I'd asked you all about and of course, it was gone. However, there were 2 ball workouts, including The Complete Gym Ball Weight Loss Workout with Book & DVD. This one stressed how it focused on core stability, muscle toning and cardiovascular aerobics plus recipes and an eating plan. I don't need to lose weight but I liked the rest of it and I definitely want to maintain my weight loss so... I bought it!!!

I just inflated the burst resistant ball (thank you to the people who told me to look for that, I'm sorry I can't remember who right now) and turned on the DVD and still in my jeans and sweater I started doing the warm-up just to see what it was like. It was so easy to follow but even after just a few minutes of it (I had to stop because DS was coming in from school and I needed to take care of him first) I'm actually a little sore, like I was really doing something! I didn't feel like I was because I was laughing as I tried to stay on the ball and do the moves and because it was FUN! The person who leads it is Lucy Knight, a Brit so after our notes earlier about how I don't speak with an accent even after spending significant amounts of time in the UK I'm going to be hearing Brit English in my head again and the book is all British English! :-) It is a 31 minute workout and I only did about 5 minutes of it. I'm looking forward to getting into exercise clothes and giving it more of a shot later! I put that subject line up there because I already got the Kathy step workout you all told me would be great but that I haven't used and I felt like I shouldn't get another one to just sit but... for $14.99 and with all your wonderful encouragement, I HAD to!!! The good thing is, I'm really excited about it and I think it is going to be a lot of fun. I'll write a review after I work with it more. (The reason I hadn't used the Kathy workout or done any workouts for a few weeks now is mostly because the DVD player on my computer is down and I forgot, until Thanksgiving Day that we had another semi-working DVD player in a room with a door, away from the family, that should be fine until I get my computer fixed. So, I have no more excuses it looks like and I'm going to get " on the ball " later!)

Thanks Kerry! I was going to play with it more tonight and got busy with other things that had to be done. Hoping to have a chance to try it out tomorrow morning but it might have to wait until Wednesday. In the meantime, my kids love it and are going to have to understand it is MOMMY'S toy, not theirs! :-) I did read through/glance through the book that came with it though and it was INTENSE! There were aerobic, toning and strengthening for various areas and entire body, back exercises, stretching, WOW. I had no idea you could do so much on and with a ball! Even if the video isn't great the book not only shows the exercise being done in various steps (with photographs) but also gives tips on form, breathing and modifying the exercises. I think this was $14.99 very well spent already, just gotta use it now!

The kids have hop balls (like stability balls but they have handles and they can jump all around on them) but they like mine better right now even though I've tried telling them they're very similar. Actually, I could justify getting another one because my 8 year old son has sensory processing disabilities and we have done some therapy work on a stability ball before. Maybe I could even use it as a medical item for my taxes (I've been able to write off certain toys that we've bought specifically for therapy)! He doesn't need it so much now so this ball is MINE but I also don't complain too much when I see him using it in ways that help calm or focus him.
