Hi

Have a look at what we have. We use HNI Original Enzyme (Caps) HN-Zyme Prime, Peptizyde and No-Fenol, we also have now added Carb-Digest (Kirkmans) on the advice of Dr U but I only give 2 of these a day before GFCF Toast.

So in a day she has enzymes before Breakfast (7 am), morning snack (10 am), lunch (12 noon), tea (3.30 pm) and dinner (6 pm). She has 1 capsule of each of the Houstons trio every time and as Breakfast and Tea are usually always GFCF Rice Toast she has Carb-Digest before those.

HNI Enzymes have helped (DOB 26/06/97) enormously since we introduced them maybe 3 years ago. Before that she would have a lot of diarrhoea, also had an impacted bowel first diagnosed around 2001(Age 4) and unblocked then but has been problematic since maybe once per year. She has had a colonoscopy/endoscopy in 2001 which found nothing (if you believe that). Now a tendency towards constipation, we use lactulose and senna daily (10 ml of each per day), just started this about 1 month ago.

The gastro reckons (and the paediatrician), its a motility disorder, probably the bowel is over stretched and has a tendency too get constipated easily. It fills up more than usual and doesnt have as much desire to void as a normal person because of this. Its always been very difficult to tell when is a bit partially blocked cos she goes to the loo every day, I only really suspect a problem when her behaviour deteriorates so much that I then think Mmmm, Wonder if its her bowel! Her behaviour is rarely fabulous, so that indicator too is easy too overlook!!

Advice would be great, I have never fiddled around with enzyme dosages have just stuck to the one of each capsule either before food or within 30 minutes of eating.

HTH and Thanks

Wow, So were we. Check out the group called Miralax. Owens of the LOD said PEG can get concerted to glyoxalate (otherwise known as antifreeze!) and this can mess up tight junctions in the cells. This is why we switched to lactulose and senna, not 100% happy with that but hopefully we can switch to something else later.

I have probably got some stuff in my files I could send you. I'll get back to you later today, promise.

I'm wondering why he advised you to add the Carb Digest when you

were already taking enzymes that digest carbs very well (HN-Zyme

Prime). How were the stools before adding the Carb Digest?

I can't speak for another company's product, but the HNI product for

digesting carbs tends to firm the stools.

Caroline,

I too am never sure if Luke is still impacted. For a long time Luke suffered from severe constipation and had BM on average once a week - but about 8 months ago managed to solve the problem by removing certain foods (starchy foods & sugar) from his diet as he now loves his daily dose of prunes every day (probably because it is the only sweet thing he has!).

A couple of months after Luke having daily BM - I nearly cancelled the long awaited x-ray - but at last minute decided to still take him - and found out, to my surprise that he was still impacted.

Luke still has daily BM - but I am always wondering if perhaps he is still impacted.

Does anyone else have this problem - how can I ever know!!?
