As you say, no guarantee is offered that there isnt lead somewhere else in the system and our own water system is quite old. I had it costed what it would take to replace the pipes from the start of my house and into the mains and it was £2,000 (conservatively) because i have to dig up concrete. Your situation might be better. Get a water filter? I bought a pozzani and it is supposed to screen out heavy metals. Guest guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Share Posted April 6, 2006 Got the pozzani on EBAY for £10.00! It dosent need a plumber as such but you need to know what you are doing. It taps into your main water line leading up under your sink. It has a separate tap and siphons off the water into the tap, next to your regular tap. According to pozzani, it filters out lead and filters out " solids " to 99%. They say anyway. I hope its true. You are responsible for changing your lead pipes from your property to the boundary then the water board will pay for the bit under the payment. You have to apply to them and they come and survey the job before giving you go ahead to do your bit. I used someone who used a ‘mole’. They dig a hole at each end and send this machine in which digs underneath your drive, garden etc so minimizes the disruption. It has cost me 500 quid which I didn’t think was too bad. Also I have had a Pozzani filter fitted in the kitchen. The whole process has only taken a few weeks from initial application.
