Yes, what you describe is what generally happens for most of our casts. From

what I understand, it's the hips where they get a lot of the correction, so as

long as that is staying tight, I think you are okay!!

NATHANS CAST

Hi everyone, again. I spoke to about s cast, and

I am reassured, however, I would love to hear everyones experience

about casting (Now that has a CORRECT cast on)

s cast was so tight-very fitted and moulded. However, it's been

two weeks since his casting, and today I noticed it to be a bit looser

and I immediatly got concerned. Around his hips the cast is still super

tight, I can't get a finger or finger tip in there. But in the mushroom

opening I can see around to his back (just a bit, on the opposite side

of his curve, and get a few fingers inside, not a lot, but a little

bit. On the side of his curve, I can't get in there, so I am relieved.

Can anyone else tell me their experiences with casts. Also, the hole at

the back is not as tight either.

Thanks,

That is pretty much how Cole's casts usually fit as well. I used to get very

concerned but now he is almost straight. It sounds like 's cast is tight

in the three main pressure areas and that's what counts.

Good Luck,

Thankyou so much! Honestly, after everything (the terrible cast

had before where I could put a WHOLE hand, wrist and arm down)

I just thought, That's it, if something is wrong with this cast after

donating $35,000 in equipment and training, I'm gonna lose it. Dr

Mehta has agreed to come to Australia to hold an ETTP next year, and

I am fundraising like crazy to ensure that happens. I'm also bringing

out with Dr Mehta and orthos from New Zealand, Singapore and

Malaysia. Orthos, orthotists and paediatricians from around Australia

are coming too. My husband and I took out a $150,000 loan, so we

already have the money, but my fundrasing committee are doing some

amazing things. Plus the orthopedic surgeon who agreed to all this

(legend) over here in Australia is called Dr Angus Gray from Sydney.

He is great friends with Dr Jim from Erie, PA. Does anybody

deal with Jim ? Anyway, Cole's story and before and after x-

rays were sooo important in this happening, so thank you .

Thank you as well , for reassuring me that this is normal.

The more people I hear it from, the better I feel. This group is

amazing!

My son's (also ) cast was tight at first and then loosened up a bit after

the first few weeks. He was pretty miserable at first because it was so tight.

He got some pressure areas but no skin breakdown from the cast having to be so

tight to control his curve. We did the serial casting for a couple of years

and are now undergoing the growth rods. He has another lengthing Thursday Dec

2. It has been a long process. Best of luck. , 's mom

Especially since this will be your first cast, I recommend staying overnight.

It is a long day and you want to be sure you can have them trim or fix anything

that needs changing before you get home. The areas that usually need trimming

the most afterwards for us has been under the armpits. If they don't trim

enough, it can rub the skin under there.
