charting workouts

Hi guys!

I'm wanting to change up how I chart my workouts. Do you all chart at all? I usually write day for each day what I did, calories burned, weights I used and the length. I've noticed it's really been a waste because I don't do the same workouts that often to where I would need to go back and look at anything particular.

This month I made up my rotation for each day and have decided that if I don't see any results from it that I'll throw it out and move on and only keep the ones that I have seen results. I have thought about just using my AOL calendar for type in what I do each day.

Just curious as to how you all chart your workouts.

I write down in a plain notebook when I exercise, day, date, length of workout and what workout I did. I then put this information into an Excel spreadsheet. I also have ALL of my exercise videos/DVDs listed in Excel It's alot of fun to keep track of my exercises! Jenfitgrl222@... wrote: Hi guys! I'm wanting to change up how I chart my workouts. I look back to see how many days I missed and such, but i don't ever compare calories burned w/ one workout w/ one time to the next. I put an X in the days that I don't workout.

I'm beginning to think its a waste of time to write all that stuff down because I never look back either. I always write down the time, length, weights used, calories, zone, if I modified or not and time of day. I've thought about just writing it down in my AOL calendar. I don't know.......

Glad to hear your cold is about gone. I've had something going on the last few days and now this morning my ears and head feels all clogged up.... It will pass. I just try to ignore it and go on. I took Nyquil last night but it didn't do much except help me sleep which is a very good thing for me.

that makes sense. I used excel a long time ago and my computer crashed and I didn't have it on a disk and I lost all my information. I think I might use AOL calendar. I know that even if my computer crashes I can still get my information..

sometimes i look back on the calendar to see the last entry for a specific workout.... if im trying to choose a workout from a specific category, i like to pick something that hasnt been done in a long while.

I have found myself doing that also. I'm thinking about just using the AOL Calendar and then keeping a paper at the end of the month to calculate the days, hours etc.... I do have a list of all my workouts in excel and I put a smiley face with the date next to it each time I do a workout so if I needed to go back and look I could always just look there.

Thanks for the reply!

hi michelle and everyone -

for recording workouts, each day i write down the workout name(s),

the length of time i spent on them, and the total calorie burn on a

calendar. then at the end of each week i like to add up the times

and cals so that i can compare week-to-week to see where i slacked

off or where i did really well.

sometimes this helps me to get busy with my workouts, other times it

helps me to see that i really have done some work even though i dont

think i have done much. and because i never seem to lose weight, it

consoles me to look at the calendar and know that i have tried (and

to tell myself AGAIN that it really is the food intake that i need to

work harder on).

sometimes i look back on the calendar to see the last entry for a

specific workout.... if im trying to choose a workout from a

specific category, i like to pick something that hasnt been done in a

long while. for weighted workouts, i like to record the weights

that i used (just generally, not for every single exercise

specifically) so that i have an idea of what to use the next time

that i do it. often i dont bother with that now though, because ive

gotten used to just knowing what dumbells to use, but this was quite

helpful when i was first starting out.

:*carolyn.

I'm like Jen and use an Excel spreadsheet. I don't look back either, but I think the act of writing something down and tracking it "solidifies" your intent somehow, and also I'm just so dang proud of myself for getting my butt outta bed and doing a workout that I want to show off by writing it down.Journalling, I'm beginning to think its a waste of time to write all that stuff down because I never look back either.

Thanks Kerry! For years I kept a binder and printed out the calendar days, but by the end of the year I didn't know what to do with them so they ended up in the trash. The past few days I've been using AOL Calendar and so far so good.

Hi ,

I chart my workouts in a loose leafed duo tang folder. When it gets full I put the used sheets into a binder. It's neat to look back and read your workouts and how you felt that day.

I'm sure that using the computer would result in a neater easier to read version.

I think that if I used the computer I wouldn't look back on my workouts like I do now; they'd probably just take up room on my computer until I decided to put them in the recycle bin, so I guess either way they end up in the trash. LOL! I like to use the loose leaf so that I have lots of room to write things down, measurements, how I'm feeling, what weights I use, step height etc. I may have to start using the computer some day to avoid being buried in a pile of paper.

Thanks for sharing your ideas.
