Weigh-In Monday October 9, 2006January 1, 2006: *200.6*LAST WEEK'S WEIGHT: 202.0 THIS WEEK'S WEIGHT: 203.8LBS LOST OR GAINED THIS WEEK: GAIN of 1.8 lbs thisweekMILEAGE (based on 1 mile = 15 mins): 20 MILESTOTAL MINUTES OF EXERCISE: 300 MINUTESGOAL WEIGHT: 120 lbs Well I was going to try and exercise after work today but my day was even LONGER than I thought it would be! My boss asked me to interpret from 8am to 5pm with another interpreter (we trade off interpreting.) I said yes because she is paying me $23 an hour and $9.60 for mileage which

is more than I usually get... I usually get $18 during the day, $20 in the evenings and I get $8 for mileage. She wants me to interpret for a corp. computer workshop Monday and Wednesday this week and Monday next week...which comes out to be OVER $500 for 3 days! The problem was that my team interpreter was 2 hours and 45 minutes LATE...needless to say I was pissed off! Interpreting is NOT an easy job it's very draining both mentally and physically. After work I went to a sports shop called "Fanatic U" to buy some Detroit Tiger baseball shirts...I gotta support my team! Anyway, I barely got home in time to change my clothes and go play volleyball. Jen

Hi Jen,

Work can tend to get in the way of exercise, I would have been mad if my coworker was late, I can't imagine being 2 hours and 45 minutes late! Your job sounds very demanding you earn every penny you make!

Well I was going to try and exercise after work today but my day was even LONGER than I thought it would be! My boss asked me to interpret from 8am to 5pm with another interpreter (we trade off interpreting.) I said yes because she is paying me $23 an hour and $9.60 for mileage which is more than I usually get... I usually get $18 during the day, $20 in the evenings and I get $8 for mileage. She wants me to interpret for a corp. computer workshop Monday and Wednesday this week and Monday next week...which comes out to be OVER $500 for 3 days!

After work I went to a sports shop called "Fanatic U" to buy some Detroit Tiger baseball shirts...I gotta support my team!

Anyway, I barely got home in time to change my clothes and go play volleyball.

Hi Kerry, my brain was fried after interpreting all day so I didn't play volleyball well until about the middle of the evening....then I got my second wind and I played a lot better. I have to work with that stupid girl again tomorrow so she had better show up in time, if not I will definately tell our boss what happened. Interpreting that long of a time alone is just too hard... especially when it's a technical subject, which is was....anyway I had better go wash my hair (I stayed up watching Tigers beat the A's) because I have to be at work at 8am! You have a tough job, I don't know if I'd want to do it.

Hi Kerry, interpreting isn't like a regular job...it's very tiring both physically and mentally because of listening to a message in one language (English) and changing it into a message in another langauge (American Sign Language.) I couldn't wait for my co-worker, I had to do the job by myself because I was the only interpreter there. Normally, if an assignment is over 2 hours (this one was 9 hours long) interpreters would take turns interpreting either in 15 minute or 20 minute blocks. But this assignment was harder than usual because it was very technical so normally there would be two interpreters even if it were for less than 2 hours. My team interpreter was almost 3 hours late so I had to do that whole time by myself with only a 10 minute break during the 3 hours. I'm not sure if somone who isn't an interpreter can understand how hard that is or not. Think of a job where you have to pay attention the whole time (no daydreaming!) and you have to think fast because you are going back and forth between two very different langauges...that's interpreting! Hi Jen, I know I would make lots of mistakes with a job like that, I'd hate to think what the interpretation would be. I can't imagine having only a 10 minute break in 3 hours, how grueling. Do you work with the person who was late often? I hope you are rested up.

I read Jen's description of her job too and just wanted to say WOW! That sounds like quite the mental (and physical) workout!!!

Hi Jen, I know I would make lots of mistakes with a job like that, I'd hate to think what the interpretation would be. I can't imagine having only a 10 minute break in 3 hours, how grueling. Do you work with the person who was late often? I hope you are rested up.

Hi Kerry, no lucky for me I only have to work with her for 3 days. She was on time last Wednesday and tomorrow is the last day out there so hopefully she will be on time. The job isn't so bad if we change up every 15 minutes, even though I still am working ie helping her etc.... Time goes by pretty fast. My brain was dead by the time I got to volleyball though so it took me a while before I played half way decent. Good to hear that you don't have to put up with the lateness too much.
