Can it be? Your absent [minded?] moderator has

*finally* done a home workout?

I've gained about 20 lbs these past six months and am

angry with myself. I spent quite a bit of time at the

gym last week doing a one body part per day regime

which I enjoyed, but this week my schedule is so crazy

that only home workouts are feasible, and I must admit

I had a blast working out in my living room this

evening, not self-conscious at all about my appearance

and working out in a sports bra without a tee-shirt (I

won't do this at the gym until I've lost a good 40

more lbs) and being with one of my favorite workout

partners, (see attached), who participated by

attacking my ankles during the squats but otherwise

kept me company.

Tonite I tried 10 Minute Solution - Kickbox/Bootcamp

with Keli for the first time. This dvd is

chaptered so you can customize your workout, but I did

the whole 50 minutes.

I really like this workout quite a bit!

The first 10 minute segment is Basic Training, where

Keli goes over all the punches and does simple combos

with the punches, bobbing and weaving, knee strikes

and jumpropes. I added in some extra knee strikes and

kicks throughout to amp it up a bit, but enjoyed

working on my form because one can never practice that

too much!

Part 2 was Ultimate Buns and Thighs, which I was

fantastic! My buns are sore already! She did

something that does in Tae Bo, but more slowly

and safely but with handweights and this is where she

introduces the roundhouse kicks. One exercise, for

example, is a plie squat with hand weights at guard,

drag the left leg in to the right, then do a

roundhouse, then back to a plie squat with hands at

guard. She also did some side lunges with taking the

arm down with a weight to the bent knee leg, then back

up.

Part 3 is Arm & Shoulder Sculptor. Here you practice

the punches again, but more slowly with hand weights.

I really like how Keli customizes all the strength

portions to help strengthen the muscles used in cardio

kickboxing!

Part 4 was probably my most favorite part, which is

where the bootcamp portion of the dvd comes into

place. You start with burpees - squat down, feet out,

pushup, feet jump back in, come up, then jog and do

some football runs, repeat. She adds on other layers

though, including after the pushup, right hand out,

left hand out, right hand in, left hand in, repeat

with legs, then lifing one leg up and hold, repeat on

the other leg, then a set of " jumping jack legs " in

this pushup position on the floor before coming back

up for the job and football run portion. My heart

rate went up on this plyometric section!

There was also another part where you start with a

slow step touch, turns to a speed skate, then an

agility " 1,2,3 " step from side to side, then a 5 step

with an elbow strike from side to side, then " hopping "

double bobs and weaves with a knee and opposing jab

(like we often do in Turbo Kick/Jam) from side to

side, and lastly, triple jab punches from side to

side.

Part 5 was washboard abs. Nothing remarkable here,

just a typical aerobic workout ab section.

Overall, I give this a " B " ! It was a head to toe

workout strength wise that was custom designed to

strengthen muscles used in cardio kickboxing, and Keli

was pleasant and cued just fine.

I look forward to tryiing the two other 10 Minute

Solutions dvd's I have!
