Guest guest
Wow......I can't say I really have any tips for that since Lexi never had a blow out like that in her cast. I would think the first thing would be to try to figure out a way to get her back as clean as possible if there is any residual poop left on her skin so it doesn't get irritated and cause more smell. I can't even think of anything you could get up there though to get her wiped down. As for the smell, maybe spray the back of the cast with Febreze or something. Do they make scented panty liners or maxi pads.....that may take some of the smell away for the time being. I am sorry I can't be more help. Hopefully another mom can give you some better advice. If the shirt goes back up and comes back out with poop, keep doing that and hopefully you can catch quite a bit of it and get it washed off. Good luck! Tracey Well. I've failed the diapering test.... One day home from the hospital with Alison’s first cast and she’s now had her first blow out….. This wasn’t the spill over the diaper a little kind of blowout, this was the up-the-back, take-the-shirt-off, poop-gets-in-the-hair, go-straight-to-the-tub kind of blow out! But, since we can’t go straight to the tub with a cast, we just did our best. I pulled the stretchy shirt out as much as I could without choking the poor thing, and while dad held her over the sink, I washed and dried the shirt and then let it go back up in. Then I pulled it back out and it was poopy again. Then I realized that we had poop on the inside of the cast as well as the shirt so I did my best at wiping off the inside of the cast with a wipe and then blow drying it out….UGH! I thought that I was doing everything right, I was changing the diaper every two hours, the front and back of the diaper were folded in and tucked up inside the cast as far as I could get them, and she had a pad in the diaper for more absorbency. I think that the timing was just bad as she was in her doorway jumper when it happened and so it didn’t have anywhere to go but up. I guess that since she only poops once a day that I’ll just make sure she’s not sitting in anything like that (jumper or excersaucer) until she’s pooped for the day. I asked about the gortex liners that we’ve been discussing and Dr. D said that they don’t use them….Maybe I’ll insist for next time… So…do any of you have any tips on getting the smell to go away????? Any real life tips would be greatly appreciated. I’ve read the diapering tips on the website and will reread them in a minute. It was fun to meet Abigail and Nadia and and Kylie while we were there. Hope to meet more of you in the future. & Alison
Guest guest
Hi i will tell you from experience that febreze might not be the best option.i think the scent mixed with the poop will really smell bad.also the febreze could irritate the skin. my son had that happen and i used (and still use on the cast) an enzyme spray made by nature's sunshine that deoderizes well. also you could try baking soda. the enzyme spray is not sold in stores but if you'd like i could have my mom order some for you and have it sent to you. I am not sure of the cost but if this is something you are interested in let me know. hope all goes well!!!! cynthia mother of kasey and noahTracey <pthahn@...> wrote: Wow......I can't say I really have any tips for that since Lexi never had a blow out like that in her cast. Guest guest
Hi I don't have a child in a cast, so I have no experience…sorry I'm wondering if anyone has tried the natural enzyme that actually eats the poop and pee? It's sold in pet stores to eliminate stains and smells on carpets, sofas etc… I've used it on cat stains and it works great! It may be worth a try if nothing else helps. I remember people on this list had good ideas on a post I think was called " stinky shirt " maybe you could do a quick search of this site. Good luck, http://babyhomepages.net/5smurfyboys/index.php > > One day home from the hospital with Alison's first cast and she's now had > her first blow out... > > This wasn't the spill over the diaper a little kind of blowout, this was the > up-the-back, take-the-shirt-off, poop-gets-in-the-hair, > go-straight-to-the-tub kind of blow out! Guest guest
YES! this stuff works so great for all the smells that go with casting. my son gets sour smelling up by his neck and this works great. he's potty trained now but before we also used the microwavable wipes and baking soda water to alleviate the smells. cynthia <urbanmattandrea@...> wrote: Is this what you are talking about? http://www.naturessunshine.com/products/catalog/ProductLabel.asp?stockNum=9834 From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of cynthia arnoldSent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 11:54 AMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Well. Guest guest
, I hope you don't mind, but my husband and I had a few giggles with your post. Jake has the rotavirus right now (today is the 7th day and this has been one of the longest weeks on my life), and we (mostly me) chase him around checking him every 2 minutes it seems. Yes, we've had a few blowouts. His shirt has a few battle scars. Funny side story: my mom came to visit on friday and every time Jake walked by her she said she thought she smelled poop. When she checked, she said there was nothing and couldn't understand why he smelled like that. And that was AFTER we had washed that darn shirt as best we could! I don't know what works; I don't know how to stop the mess (though this is really a tame word for what it is); and I don't know how much more I can take. Sorry I have no answers for you but wanted you to know that I feel your pain. Hope you find a way that works for you! -Did he get the rotavirus again or are you referring to the last time? I hope he's only had it once, poor guy. Jake's shirt is a wreck already! Stained and stinky. I've washed it with Dreft and re-washed it and rinsed it off, and still gross. Not as stinky but still yucky and stretched out beyond recognition. I think I will try your trim and tape technique. I can't remember who mentioned the toilet paper tucking trick, but when Jake bends over there is about 4 inches between the bottom of the cast and his bum. How would the toilet paper stay in place? Trying to imagine it but having hard time. Good luck, ! mom to and Jake (now 20 months old) Claflin <noellesmommy@...> wrote: The shirt should actually absorb the smell. Guest guest
, When Ian bends over there is about 4 inches between the bottom of the cast and his bum too...so, sticking anything up the back is pointless for us. I haven't been tucking anything up there and haven't had any issues. But, we haven't had a blowout of any kind either. No, the rotavirus was during our last casting. No Fun! I can feel your pain.
