Type 1 DM and bariatric surgery

We have a teenager with Type 1 DM being evaluated for lap band or sleeve gastrectomy. This is the first Type 1 DM in our bariatric program. Is there anything we need to pay special attention in pre-op and post-op care? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
