The citrus and clove is starting to pop out. I'm only on day 3 and its still very cloudy too. iel Hi iel Did you dilute? I have placed mine so far in 7.5ml org alcohol...... it is sitting in a green 10ml bottle at present so I havn't checked for cloudiness. With every good wish Janita haan Janita, it's gin with the juniper berry . . . Somebody mentioned Jeanne Rose, who is an expert in all things distilled, and who helped me discover local distilleries and a lovely Oregon gin the last time she visited. Just as it was she who first introduced me to Alchemical Solutions in Oregon some time back. A reminder to not forget to look in your own backyard sometimes for things you might think might be found only at a distance. It's interesting to compare odor qualities using different alcohols and sometimes quite surprising. We always test synergies or single notes with all the available alcohol, invariably they are going to smell different in grain alcohol than grape . . . And certainly they would smell different in rum than gin. Not that one is better than the other, just more pleasing depending on the formula, circumstance as well as individual taste. This is another good reason to remind ourselves to keep good records of experiments. Guest guest
iel...... hi.. happy holidays. Was wondering how your Lily milk is progressing.? I always have white lilies here at chrimmus and was just picking up and inhaled their perfume and remembered. I Took it out of my handbag where I have been carrying it around with me...........it has been a few weeks now.... I breathed in the real plant and then my bottle. Well, the almond is still there but not so pronounced and all the elements have begun to combine which is rather exciting and I can begin to define....dare I say... something lilylike ....... not there yet and it may need augmenting or nuanced with something but don't know what .... but it is looking promising..... how about yours? Guest guest
and I had picked up on a soapy note and forgot about this..... till just looked at your post notes...maybe this would work better in soap...after all... did the davana produce that soapy note? what do you think? Janita Yes there is that aspect to the blend. My sniffer interprets your " soapy " as " milky " . Its probably the almond and citrus at work. Both the geranium and davana blends have this 'feel' to it. I wonder what ylang-ylang would be like for the top note instead? iel --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru. I would have to see how it would interplay with the geranium.as a lily note..hmm don't know... the lemon is def there... can smell patchouli on the dry down.. Could try.... I would use the extra rather than the others more refined aroma and again I would lean for a dilution ....yes it poss could work...it would have to be expertly applied tho.... and I am not convinced will put my thinking cap on... I like the fact the almond gives it a round overall feel to it ... I wonder if it is the geranium and almond rather than citrus and almond..that is giving the soapy/milky note.as the citrus tends to float where the geranium is steady..and the almond gives the body..I am going to give it a bit more time.... I would like to see a touch of pink pepper too for the top note to add to the clove..... as I mentioned perhaps tinctured rather than actual whole drops. The almond is way way down in the scheme of things....but def adds body. interesting. I will stick my nose in the real thing again and make some notes.... Janita ps... also what lily are we going for? do we want to try for different ones? I tend to choose the white ...... from the florists as in winter...... expecting heavy snowfall in the early hours!! Thank goodness there were only a few (less than 6) to sort out. I've chastised myself and finished labling them! Oh my, yes it has turned out very potent indeed! I can bearly distinguish the almond extract from the other components now, however I can pick out the clove and bergamot. It does smell 'cheap' to my nose. I've tinctured some of Ruth's rose concrete, so maybe I'll make another blend and substitute the rose for the geranium and neroli for the petitgrain. Something else...hmmm. A dash of pepper? or jasmine? iel
