Welcome to the largest community of Natural Perfumers on the planet!

Congratulations and welcome to Natural Perfumery. We hope you find

our group a great place to learn

and share information about aromatics, how to blend them, and if you

have a business,

how to network and market your products.

Please introduce yourself to the group soon, because that is the best way

to make contacts and let others know of your interests and expertise

We are a group of 1000+ fragrance lovers who want to revive the art

of blending using all-natural substances. You'll find members with all

levels of expertise, from newbie to expert take part in the lively

exchange of ideas, questions and camaraderie.

We have some basic rules, outlined below. Read to the end and you'll

find some helpful hints on how to use the group archives, and how to best

receive the group messages.

Please note that you must select " Special Notices " if you do not wish to

receive emails or digest from the group. We do not allow " no email "

as an option.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ADDED NOVEMBER 2004: IF YOUR POST DOES NOT APPEAR..

If, after you send a post to the group, it does not appear, it is because

of one of the following reasons:

1. You didn't snip excessive quotes and/or just posted a " me,too " response.

2. You topposted.

3. You flamed or attacked another member.

4. You are posting an ad and it's not the first of the month.

To find out how to avoid having your moderated post not appear,

please read the following:

There are tips here on how to read and respond

to the group, and ideas on how to search the

archive the informative posts.

Please read this entire post, as it

addresses several netiquette rules that

Natural Perfumery (NP) tries to achieve:

Topposting and not bothering to

snip excessive quotes are

discouraged in this group,

and it would be good to keep

them to a minimum.

Any folks who keep topposting will be put

on moderated status and

have their posts returned so

that they may fix them.

That said, here is the usual post

I repeat when necessary:

Please be considerate because folks who pay for access and have

to download 'me, too' responses to

long unedited posts.

One of my favorite silly jokes:

A. Topposting

Q. What's the most annoying thing in Internet groups?

There has been some top-posting lately with

one-line " I agree " type responses, and

there have been long posts left

unsnipped.

Here is a site to bring you up to speed:

http://www.caliburn.nl/topposting.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. No flaming.

I don't want to wake up and read people

insulting each other when I expect to

be reading about perfumery.

Nobody does.

That was the necessary warning stuff. Now

for the fun, easy stuff ;-)

Here are some tips on reading and archiving

the group messages. It took me a while

to figure out and the best way to

use the great information found on this

group (and others.)

Get the posts via individual emails.

You can set your member settings to this.

Then, within your mail reader software, set

a filter for " perfumery " and use a string

from the group headers to send all the incoming

NP mail to that mailbox. I use 'natural perfumery',

and that works well.

That way, you can both read the messages offline

and have them on your harddrive for posterity.

I find reading via the web a pain, with all the

'click to continue' messages. If you must read

via the web, learn the 'expand all messages' trick.

When you click on a messages page, hit

'expand all messages', and the page will

reload with all the messages visible.

Saves the 'click to continue' hassle.

New members might want to peruse the archives

of this group. There is an incredible amount

of fabulous perfume information there.

8000+ archived messages to read -- what to do?

The following method works best if you don't

turn your computer off frequently, otherwise

you may just want to bookmark the post you

were on when you turn off your computer,

so you can return to it. That said, you

might want to try this if you are inclined

to access and archive the more pertinent posts:

Open your browser, go to the current NP messages

page, enter 1 in the search box. That will take

you back to the first post for the group. Then

'expand all messages'. Open a second browser page

for your regular browsing, since the NP browser

page is just going to be there for you to scroll

through, selecting messages for cutting and

pasting and saving.

Open Word or any WP software you use. As you find

a great NP message to save, cut and paste it there,

save it with an appropriate title, and move on.

I did this when I joined an herbal group several

years ago, and really appreciated the wealth of

knowledge it added to my references that

I keep on my harddrive.

NOTE: some members have violated the private nature of the posts on the

group and passed them on to non-group members. Sometimes this was done

to inflame an activist, sometimes just to share information. Any reason

is wrong in the eyes of myself, the owner, and the members.

This is a breach of the confidentiality of the group. Although the group

is " public " which means it appears in the listing of , the

archives (posts) are, as stated on the homepage, " for members only. "

Any member found passing along posts to a non-member will be immediately

unsubscribed from the group and banned.

Well, that's about it. Hope I covered everything

you may have questions about. Please email me if

you need any more information.

Fragrantly yours,

Anya
