Guest guest
I heard today that one on health visiting is to be produced. There was little mention of health visitors in this one. I suppose the thing that struck me reading this where the frequent references to changes in law for nurses to become partners in general practice and new options to become entrepreneurial with various examples of this cited. There seemed to be quite a bit about alternative employers, NHS Foundation Trusts, self employment and social enterprises etc which I hear the government are very keen to promote (it will save them money). I feel I need a whole new skill set now, nursing and health visiting aren't enough- I now need business know how so I can set up social enterprise schemes, take out a loan and have financial and accounting skills etc. If I wanted to go into business I wouldn't have chosen a career in nursing and health visiting. Guest guest
Hi Maggie Do you have any more information about who is producing one for health visiting - firstly I would like to follow it up but second I think that is really interesting if they think that is what they really need to do when they keep telling us that health visiting is part of nursing and needs the same skills. In terms of alternative employers, social enterprise, social entrepreneurship etc - my sense is the government are rather more than keen to promote it - rather I think they expect it to just happen. I think you are right people will need new skills and understanding and it is not just frontline practitioners - it is everyone and one does have to ask whether those in senior management have the skills as well. At present I am putting together a national conference for Harrogate Training and Development (now CAreandHealth) on Nurse Entrepreneurship and have been very interested when researching it to find out how many organisations there are out there - both profit and non for profit - who want to help in setting up social enterprise and entrepreneur activities. The conference will be in central London on 14th December if anyone is interested. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, you're probably already aware that Micheal Traynor at Middlesex did a lit review of entrepreneurship for the SDO. I think its due to come out in mid October. < > From: " Margaret Buttigieg " <margaret@...> Date sent: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 09:38:17 +0100 Subject: Re: Modernising nursing careers Send reply to: [ Double-click this line for list subscription options ] Hi Maggie Do you have any more information about who is producing one for health visiting - firstly I would like to follow it up but second I think that is really interesting if they think that is what they really need to do when they keep telling us that health visiting is part of nursing and needs the same skills. Guest guest
Hi Margaret Cheryll mentioned it when we where discussing the Modernising Nursing Careers at our CPHVA Centres AGM. I hope I heard it correctly but I'm sure she said they where going to produce one about health visiting. Do ask Cheryll, I hope I'm not misleading you or misquoting Cheryll. Guest guest
I understand health visiting will be looked at alongside community nursing careers but at the moment I don't know when this work is expected to start.
