Ah, those aromatherapy myths!

This reminds me, in an oblique way, of a bit I saw of Dr. Duke, famed

ethnobotanist of the USDA, on TV. The program was taking a dim view of the

push to " standardize " herbs. Dr. Duke said " I had my cup of coffee this

morning, and I don't know if it had 200 or 60 mg. of caffeine, but all I

know is I got my jolt, and that's all that matter. "

Down, down, down with the patch, . It " grows " in a blend after mixing,

so you have to age it and reassess it.

I hate fragranced detergent. Everything is unscented except sometimes I use

some of the naturally-scented products of folks from here in the group in

my shower. Used Arlys Naturals Wake up shower gel this morning with

spearmint and rosewood. Very soft and lovely.

I've been doing it for 30 years +, so you still have time. I've always made

rose and other flower and herb infusions and tinctures, collected EOs,

attars and absolutes, and since it's a business -- whoo! the exploding

cabinetry theory is made reality. Need more space!

And there you are! Can't wait to sniff the first blend you make for sale,

with all the pent-up perfume visions you have in your head.

We don't really cover that subject in this group, since we focus on natural

perfumery. There are that do address natural or organic,

perhaps some of our members know of them and can recommend them to you.

Hi Anya,

I concur with Dr. Duke . . . It is the " whole " herb with all of its

molecules intact that is the most effective with the least amount of side

effects. This is now heavily debated in herbal circles, with many well

known herbalists and herb research organizations moving to agree with

standardization (including isolation and synthesis) in order to more readily

align CAM with allopathy. Saddens me that there isn't more impetus (and $)

to prove what Dr. Duke and others know to be true.
