Guest guest
I have wrote to her several times, no answer. I even brought up the fact of the many hurricane victoms getting ill from mold, and I wrote her again when I saw that she had that movie star from titanic on , who is a environmentalist, his name escapes me, the one that drowned in the end, but it never hurts to keep trying, I also wrote to Dr. Phil. > > > > > Hi everyone, > A few days ago I sent my story to Oprah and asked if she would consider > doing a show about toxic illness. Guest guest
I think if we could find out how many were willing to write, and we could get 50-100 people to write, and send them on the same day that writing Oprah would be a good idea. We can e-mail them also, from her site. The last time I wrote, believe that you were limited to how many words you could put. When this first happened to us, I had the opportunity to speak with them. However, they informed me it was to controversial. Oprah would be happy to do a show on this, if there was more evidence supporting it. I also got the impression since government and most doctors were not willing to step up and say yes mold does this, she couldn't do it-for liability. But, things do change. We could try. But, I think a group effort is the way to go as suggested. Guest guest
Hello: I might be able to help with this one...for those of you who didn't read my intro. We are about 40 miles west of Chicago. I actually was able to get ABC 7 Kathy Brock out here to do a story on Harbor Village, a federally subsidized, privately owned apartment complex in Aurora, IL. See the attached transcript. I am willing to pound the pavement...being new to the list, I don't know how long you all have been around, or what direct actions you have taken. Please fill me in. <eaglestone@...> wrote: I think if we could find out how many were willing to write, and we could get 50-100 people to write, and send them on the same day that writing Oprah would be a good idea. Guest guest
sorry...wasn't sure about the attachment...pasting in the transcript. Also, posted a few photos in an album called Harbor Village. August 1st, 2002 TOXIC MOLD. SOME AURORA RENTERS SAY ITS GROWING INSIDE THEIR APARTMENTS AND IS MAKING THEM SICK..SO THEY ARE SUING. YOU MAY WONDER .WHY DON'T THEY JUST MOVE?. THE ANSWER IS MONEY. RENT AT HABOR VILLAGE IS SUBSIDIZED BY YOUR TAX DOLLARS..THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT. TENANTS PAY WHAT THEY CAN, THE GOVERNMENT PICKS UP THE REST.. AND FOR MANY WHO LIVE AT HARBOR VILLAGE, IT IS THE ONLY OPTION THEY HAVE. HARBOR VILLAGE IN AURORA IS A FOUR BUILDING HUD HOUSING COMPLEX WITH ( A PLAYGROUND AND NEATLY CUT GRASS. BUT INSIDE, RENTER DEBBIE BROCK GAVE US A DIFFERENT VIEW. WE SAW MOLD GROWING ON WALLS..IN HER BATHROOM, THE BEDROOMS...THE CLOSET. HER UNIT AND OTHERS LEAK..WHICH IS CAUSING MOLD TO GROW. ) SHE AND OTHER TENANTS ARE SUEING...AND THEIR ATTORNEY MICHAEL DUFFY IS HOPING THE CASE GETS CLASS ACTION STATUS. MIDLAND MANAGEMENT OWNS HARBOR VILLAGE, WHICH HUD RECORDS INDICATE GENERATED 947 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED RENT LAST YEAR. YET AIR QUALITY TECHNICIAN PATRICK HARTER...WHO WAS HIRED TO TEST APARTMENTS BY THE RENTERS ATTORNEY. (graphic) .SAYS LAB RESULTS FROM BROCK'S UNIT SHOW DANGEROUS LEVELS OF AIRBORNE TOXIC MOLD. THOSE CONCERNS ARE SHARED BY DENICE IRWIN WHO WORKS WITH HUD TENANTS. SHE HAS TALKED WITH DEBBIE AND MANY OTHERS AT HARBOR VILLAGE WHO THINK MOLD IS HURTING THEIR HEALTH. SOME DOCTORS BELIEVE TOXIC MOLD CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS....THINGS LIKE DIZZINESS, FATIGUE, AND FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS. OTHERS MEDICAL EXPERTS SAY THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SUBSTANTIATE SUCH CLAIMS. HOUSING ACTIVIST CYNTHIA RALLS HAS FRIENDS AT HARBOR VILLAGE AND HAS GONE APARTMENT TO APARTMENT...VIDEOTAPING MOLD. SHE RECENTLY TOOK THAT TAPE TO A HUD TENANTS CONFERENCE ON HOUSING PROBLEMS IN WASHINGTON D.C. AURORA HOUSING INSPECTION REPORTS SHOW MOLD AND MILDEW HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED AT HABOR VILLAGE SINCE 1998 AND THE CITY HAS ISSUED SOME CITATIONS. ABOUT MIDLAND, ONE CITY MANAGER SAID QUOTE.. " ARE THEY A MODEL LANDLORD, NO, MAYBE THEY GET A C...BUT WE HAVE A LOT WORSE " .. THE DAY AFTER WE VIDEOTAPED MOLD IN BROCK'S UNIT, RALLS VIDEOTAPED WORK CREWS PAINTING OVER IT..THE TENANTS ATTORNEYS NOW HAS A RESTRAINING ORDER TO KEEP PAINTERS OUT OF OTHER APARTMENTS, UNTIL A FULL MOLD INVESTIGATION IS DONE. THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT SAYS IT HAS CONTACTED MOLD EXPERTS AND IS DOING ITS OWN REVIEW OF CONDITIONS AT HARBOR VILLAGE... AT THIS POINT, HUD SAYS IT IS TOO EARLY TO DISCUSS WHAT HAS BEEN FOUND. Ralls 630-779-2818
Guest guest
maybe if oprah got the info. on the katrina study coming up and a list of experts that would be willing to appear on her show. maybe a letter from some of the experts, with information. I cant see any of the experts that are working so hard for us turning down a chance to be on oprah. I know oprah can have some balls when she's passionate about something. maybe she just needs to have a good long talk with a expert or 2, to make her see how important this is.I know she does shows on things that she doesn't know much about, but on this subject, she may need some good info. on the subject and talks with experts to convience her of how bad this needs to be brought to the public. > > > >> Perhaps if several hundred of us > >>sent letters they would listen. > > > > I like this idea, that way they know that we know they got the > > message. Guest guest
I think we would have to procede with care, and by thinking very carefully about what we approch her with, right off the bat, thats why it would be important to have experts visit with her. maybe the first step would be the katrina study, and experts input, leaveing the past rat study and letters to the AAAAI for the second show, lol's if we could get her to do a first one, I dont know , thats why it would be nice if she could meet with some experts and let them play it by ear. just a thought. I could send her the articles on the katrina study with pubmed article by on mycotoxins and a couple of other documents relateing to mycotoxin/mold exposure, if someone can give me a e-mail address to send them. I cant send them by way of the limited tell your story provided at her web site. any one got a better e-mail address to send them to? like her personal one, or her workers that put these shows together? could also make a list with the experts names and contacts that might be willing to be on a show. or if someone close to her show could get these documents put in the hands of her show producers directly , I could send them to her. some one have a list made up allready, with our experts names addys and phone numbers?? > > I agree with you. Guest guest
good idea rosie, wonder if he would do a show on just MCS and how it effects relationships, or keeps you from haveing one. > > Just had a thought and would love some input on this. Guest guest
The only way we're going to get anyone's attention is to organize and get systematic about it. We need to look at how other groups have accomplished the same thing we want to do. The parents fighting the mercury in vaccines/autism did an organized email, fax, & phone campaign (it was a beautiful thing to watch!)to their representatives/senators when lines were added to a bill that would take away their right to persue vaccine manufacturers in court. It worked 3 or 4 times (until Frist snuck it in the defense spending bill during the holidays & legislators voted on it not knowing it had been added) Sorry about the ramble - the point being everyone was calling-faxing-emailing during the same day, week - whatever. These parents had jammed the Hill email system, bogged down the fax system - people noticed. Sporadic contact doesn't make a very big impact. Look at all the other causes we'd be up against. We have no money, no power except in numbers & sheer will. It would also help if we had stories of how this is affecting our children. People react better to children than us adults. Also, if our message can touch those who aren't affected - but could be. The message that this could happen to you,too needs to be made clear. We were normal, everyday people before mold took over our lives! We need to focus our efforts together. Choose a cohesive message (a good message might be we're trying to get the medical community to recognise mold injuries - this would be right up Sharon K's alley - she's extremely elloquent in her writings about this) & determine who we want to take notice, then concentrate all of our contacts to that person or group. I think Oprah would be a good start - or her friend Gail. We have to impress whoever with our will and determination. Guest guest
I agree completely, we need the support of a computer geek and a mainframe where all dated can be stored, like the articles that have been compiled by many that prove alltogether, that this illness is real, and all of it together is very hard to ignore. we need storys compiled together and listed under catergories for easy acsess, if someone needs (for example) stories of other renters dealings with mold in apartments. we need a data base, with everything there compiled. > > > > she's about the only one i have NOT written to, sue.....do you wanta > try? > > > > www.dearabby.com, i think is the site. > > > > take care, > > victoria > > Re: [] Re: Write to Oprah > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > No, I haven't but there must be some celebrity out there that would > > > listen > > > and put some of their $$$ to a good cause that could help people > RIGHT > > > HERE > > > IN AMERICA!!!!! > > > Sue > > > > > > has anybody written to dear abby about all this mess? > > > v. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
