Pomegranate Shines in Cancer and Heart Health Research

Byron s, CCN

Due to numerous scandals like Vioxx, the public has become very aware that

almost all drugs carry serious side effects and using them in the name of

prevention requires a mental exam for sanity. Researchers are trying to help

the consumer public by identifying how food can prevent cancer and heart

disease. They are unlocking a treasure trove of information. Pomegranate is

being thrust into the spotlight as a super-fruit with promising animal studies

suggestng it can help ward off heart disease and cancer.

Pomegranate has been shown to reduce the uptake of plaque into arteries, lower

cholesterol, and turn on genes that burn fat (reducing the risk for diabetes and

helping weight loss).

Other studies show that it may reduce the risk for prostate cancer, colon

cancer, and lung cancer.

The active component in Pomegranate is primarily a type of antioxidant called

punicalagins, which are highly concentrated and absorbable in the form of

dietary supplements.

A new study has shown that boswellic acid, a natural herbal dietary supplement,

dramatically reduced plaque formation in mice. In the experiment mice were

injected with a toxin (LPS) that produces circulatory inflammation resulting in

arteriosclerosis (hardening of arteries). Mice treated with boswellic acid were

far more able to withstand the toxic exposure, showing half the size of lesions

compared to untreated mice.

a.. Low Levels of Vitamin E Linked to Declining Health of Seniors, Wednesday,

January 23, 2008

Over the past few years Vitamin E was fraudulently attacked by scumbag drug

pushers. As a result seniors across the country were terrorized by their low-IQ

physicians to stop taking vitamin E. Such advice, which continues to this day

in many doctor's offices around the country, is harming seniors and causing a

decline in their health. This is a crime against elderly citizens of this

country.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Calcium and Heart Health - Flawed Study Alarms Women, Tuesday, January 22,

2008

A recent study published in the British Medical Journal has insinuated that

calcium intake in elderly women may increase the risk for a heart attack. The

study involved 1471 postmenopausal women (mean age 74). The story has been

spread by major news media and has confused and needlessly worried many women

who are taking calcium for their bone health. The study contains numerous flaws

and therefore its conclusion is not reliable.

a.. Bone-Drug Crisis Faces American Women,

Today researchers from the University of British Columbia and Vancouver

Coastal Health Research Institute released a study showing that popular bone

drugs triple the risk for the death of bone tissue, resulting in pain and

disfigurement. This new information helps to explain the recent FDA warning on

debilitating pain from these drugs.

a.. Optimal Vitamin D Helps Lower Blood Pressure, Monday, January 14, 2008

A new finding about vitamin D shows that optimal blood levels of vitamin D

are associated with 20% lower blood pressure. That is a rather interesting

finding when you understand that there are 53% more heart attacks in the winter

than in the summer and heart attacks in the winter are often more severe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Vitamin C Associated with 42% Reduced Risk for Stroke,

Vitamin C is one of those antioxidants that pushers of drugs love to say

does nothing good, despite hundreds of studies to the contrary. Now the

naysayers are turning orange and purple with envy. A new study following 20,000

people ages 40-79 from the United Kingdom found that after a decade those with

the highest levels of vitamin C in their blood had a 42% decreased risk for

stroke.

a.. DHA Found to Protect against Alzheimer's, Wednesday, January 02,

2008

We have known for many years that the essential fatty acid DHA is one of

the best brain support nutrients for young and old. Researchers at UCLA's are

identifying exactly how DHA acts to protects against Alzheimer's disease.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. B12 and Folic Acid Should be Taken Together,

Folic Acid is an important B vitamin for nerve and cardiovascular

health. As such, it is being widely promoted - even food is being fortified

with extra folic acid. There is no question that folic acid supplementation

before and during pregnancy cuts down on nerve-related problems in the newborn

child.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. ADHD Linked to Poor Brain Development, Tuesday, December 18, 2007

A body of new scientific work is showing that ADHD may be rooted in the

failure of the brain to develop at a normal rate, meaning that a 10 year old is

behaving like a four year old and has a delay in anatomical brain development to

prove it. This information is consistent with what I have been saying for some

time about the importance of nutrient status in the womb, the health of the

mother during pregnancy, especially regarding the subject of leptin.

Womb-related issues and early life nutritional status are likely to have a huge

bearing on childhood brain development and consequent intelligence (or lack

thereof).

a.. Carnitine Improves Energy and Physical Function in Centenarians,

Monday, December 17, 2007

Living to the ripe old age of 100 is not always a lot of fun. Typical

problems involve poor endurance and weakness, especially upon physical activity

(when this happens before age 60 its called fibromyalgia). Another key problem

is deteriorating cognitive function and memory.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. High Homocysteine - A New Risk Factor for Bone Loss, Friday,

December 14, 2007

Homocysteine is naturally produced by the liver during protein

metabolism and then cleared with the help of the B vitamins like folic acid,

B12, and B6. It is well known that if homocysteine levels build up due to B

vitamin deficiency (which is common) then a toxic level of homocysteine is

reached that causes cholesterol to form plaque and interferes with

neurotransmitter function making depression more likely.

A new study is showing that high levels of homocysteine can accumulate

in bone by binding to collagen. This in turn causes abnormal collagen linking,

resulting in poor bone formation. On top of that, the homocysteine also acts to

stimulate osteoclasts - the type of bone cell involved in bone loss.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Fish Oil Improves Circulation in Healthy People,

The essential fatty acids in fish oil, especially DHA, are now

recognized as an excellent cardiovascular support nutrient. A new study in

healthy younger men and women shows that fish oil at a small dose of 1 gram per

day was able to improve the function of their arteries, helping them dilate

easier so blood could flow better. It also helped reduce their resting heart

rate, meaning the heart did not have to work as hard to get its job done.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Folic Acid and DHA for Cognitive Function and Alzheimer's,

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

New research is explaining the importance of folic acid and DHA for

improved cognitive function and prevention of neuro-degeneration. Folic acid is

found to lower the brain and cardiovascular irritant, homocysteine. It directly

improves brain function and helps to raise the levels of DHA in the blood. DHA

is known to help generate new nerve growth, improve nerve transmission and

connectivity, enhance nerve-related memory factors, and reduce brain

inflammation.

a.. Tocotrienols and Citrus Flavonoids Lower Cholesterol by 20-30%,

A new study shows the power of natural substances to help promote

healthy levels of cholesterol. A combination of tocotrienols and citrus-derived

polymethoxylated flavones were tested on men and women with high cholesterol

(total greater than 230).

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. DHA Protects Against Parkinson's, Tuesday, November 27, 2007

A rather amazing mouse study has just shown that DHA, an important

omega-3 essential fatty acid that is known to support healthy brain function,

completely protected the brains of mice exposed to a known toxin that routinely

produces Parkinson's disease.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. High Dose Vitamin E is Safe for the Heart, Tuesday, November

20, 2007

A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study tested 1200 IU

of vitamin E per day for two years in patients with coronary artery disease.

The study is significant because various forces promoting drugs have

fraudulently concocted anti-vitamin E studies in an effort to get older people

to take more drugs and to not take vitamin E. Of course, the Big

Pharma-sponsored media did not report the pro-vitamin E study.

a.. Quercetin Reduces the Symptoms of Asthma, Monday, November 19,

2007

Quercetin has long been used as a potent natural anti-allergen, as

it helps to stabilize the histamine-containing mast cells. New research is

showing that quercetin does this by modifying inflammatory signals at the gene

level. Inflammatory signals such as TNFa, IL6, and NF kappaB were all reduced

by quercetin. Problems such as asthma typically have elevations of these

inflammatory markers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. DHA for Mental Skills - the Evidence Continues, Wednesday,

November 14, 2007

DHA is the preferred essential fatty acid for the structure of

healthy brain cells. A variety of new research clearly shows that the higher

the level of omega 3 oils like DHA in the diet and in the blood, the better the

brain works.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Skin Integrity is Vital to Natural Immune Defense, Monday,

November 05, 2007

The healthy structure of the skin is vital to maintaining the skin's

role as part of the immune system. New research showed that ongoing stress

irritated the skin, as nerves are wired directly to the skin. This resulted in a

decrease of the integrity of skin itself, an increase of immune-suppressing

glucocorticoids in the skin, and a decrease of front line immune soldiers that

are naturally part of the skin (antimicrobial peptides).

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Female Athletes at Risk for Bone Loss, Monday, October 29,

2007

Another study confirms that female athletes involved in significant

aerobic exercise, such as running and swimming, have lower bone density. While

the researchers seem puzzled by their findings, this is not hard to understand.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Homocysteine Linked to Vision Loss,

Homocysteine is already known to damage cholesterol, plaque

arteries, increase heart disease risk, and lead to cognitive decline. Add to

this list loss of vision and retinal damage.

------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Melatonin Shines - Especially in the Winter, Tuesday,

October 23, 2007

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland of the brain, helping to

synchronize the timing of body functions and is especially important for restful

sleep. Melatonin is also a powerful antioxidant. It is one of the best

remedies for poor mood that is associated with shorter and colder days.

Melatonin levels begin to decline at age 30 and the decline in melatonin is

linked by many studies to the increase in age-related deterioration.

------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Quercetin Reduces the Risk of Pancreatic Cancer, Tuesday,

October 16, 2007

Research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology shows

that quercetin intake directly lowers the risk of pancreatic cancer. Quercetin

is a unique bioflavanoid that is available as a dietary supplement and is high

in onions and apples.

a.. Who is Preparing Your Food?, Sunday, October 07, 2007

A new animal study poses a whole new set of health questions.

Mice lacking immune competence in their digestive tract rapidly breed hostile

bacteria that cause ulcerative colitis. Once developed, the hostile bacteria

are readily passed on to other mice.

a.. Corn is No Longer Safe to Eat, Thursday, October 04, 2007

The FDA is near completely inept at doing its job of protecting

consumers - and China is not the main problem - its United States companies who

are forever altering the nature of the food supply by inserting toxic genes into

every cell of food. Their game if profit. Human health is of little concern.

a.. Temperature Drop Shocks the Thyroid, Wednesday, September

26, 2007

Northern areas of the United States are experiencing significantly

swinging temperatures, a form of stress that sends the thyroid for a loop.

Thyroid hormone adjusts itself once every seven days (the half life of the

hormone). When daytime high temperatures vary 25 - 40 degrees over a period of

a few days, the thyroid system really struggles to keep up.

------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Insulin Treatment for Type II Diabetics Fails, Friday,

September 21, 2007

The New England Journal of Medicine published a study that was

supposed to prove what drug strategy for diabetics works the best. The study

participants took several common diabetes drugs along with varied insulin

treatments (once, twice, or three times per day). The researchers were

disappointed to find out that none of their strategies worked. The researchers

appeared confused - unable to explain why their study didn't work.

a.. NAC Reduces Gambling Addiction, Tuesday, September 18, 2007

A preliminary study conducted at the University of Minnesota shows

that pathological gamblers are significantly helped by the antioxidant nutrient

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC). The study was conducted based on the notion that NAC

modulates glutamate, a neurologic compound that can become an excitotoxin under

various circumstances and lead to abnormal brain activation.

------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Cranberry - An All Purpose Anti-Bacterial,

Well now we know it must be true - even the Wall Street Journal

is reporting the powerful anti-bacterial properties of cranberry extracts. Long

used as a proven folk remedy to treat urinary tract infections, scientists are

now fascinated with the ability of cranberry proanthocyanadins to prevent

infections from " sticking " to human cells.

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Vitamin C and NAC Slow the Spread of Cancer, Tuesday,

September 11, 2007

New research shows that Vitamin C and NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

significantly inhibited the spread of lymphoma or prostate cancer cells that

were implanted in mice. Scientists had previously believed that the ability of

antioxidants to protect against cancer was mainly due to protecting the DNA of

cells from damage. In this new study it was proven that these antioxidants

actually worked by preventing cancer cells from replicating.

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Food Additives and Artificial Colors Induce ADHD Behavior,

Saturday, September 08, 2007

Children are irritating and injuring their brains with commonly

consumed garbage, that is the meaning of a study recently published in the

Lancet. One culprit is sodium benzoate, a preservative used in soda and other

beverages. Another culprit is artificial food coloring. It is interesting to

note that when the FDA was given some real regulatory power in 1939 the first

thing they did was allow artificial food coloring into the food supply. These

chemical additives are derived from coal tar and made by the German drug

companies like Bayer and BASF. In the first year 39 million tons of these

poisons were used in our food, a number which has grown ever since.

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Probiotics Lower Colon Cancer Risk Factors, Wednesday,

September 05, 2007

The health of the digestive tract is the foundation of health

for any person. There are more foreign cells in the digestive tract than

comprise the entire human body. Imbalances in the 3-5 pounds of foreign cells

that comprise this digestive terrain are the cause of many health problems,

including colon cancer.

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Coenzyme Q10 Remarkably Improves Circulation, Monday,

September 03, 2007

A new double-blind randomized controlled study tested 300 mg of

Coenzyme Q10 per day in patients with heart disease to see if it could improve

their circulation and antioxidant defense system. Researchers called the

results " remarkable " in terms of the ability of Q10 to restore faulty

antioxidant defense systems in the circulation, particularly in those with the

greatest health problems. There was a significant improvement in vascular

relaxation in the Q10 group, showing that Q10 is a highly superior nutrient in

supporting heart health.

a.. Back to School - DHA for the Eyes and Brain, Wednesday,

August 29, 2007

Recent research continues to prove what has been known for many

years, that DHA is a vital nutrient in the development of proper eyesight,

cognitive function, and learning. It is especially important for a mother to

consume DHA during pregnancy and while nursing. If a mother isn't nursing then

a DHA-fortified formula is mandatory. Molecularly distilled DHA is the

preferred source as there is no mercury which may be present in fish that are

the primary source of dietary DHA. The brain is one of the fattiest organs in

the body and will build its structure out of whatever types of fat are in the

diet. Imagine the ability of a brain made of French fries, potato chips, corn

chips, and other junk food.

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Soda Poison - Time to Ban High Fructose Corn Syrup,

Saturday, August 25, 2007

New research shows that the high fructose corn syrup used in

soda pop is not only a lot of sugar, IT IS TOXIC TO HUMAN HEALTH. It took

ignorant public health officials two decades to figure out trans fats were

really as bad as was obvious. How long will it take this time?

----------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Cruciferous Vegetables Cut Prostate Cancer Risk in Half,

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Yale researchers have determined that men who eat half a cup of

broccoli or cauliflower per week are half as likely to develop the deadly form

of prostate cancer. This information comes from the 29,000 men participating in

the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial.

a.. Add Cranberry to the Anti-Cancer Arsenal, Wednesday,

August 22, 2007

New research shows that ovarian cancer cells pretreated with

exposure to cranberry extract rich in antioxidants enabled chemo drugs to kill

the cancer cells six times more effectively than untreated cells...Cranberry by

itself also showed the ability to reduce and prevent the spreading of some types

of cancer cells.

a.. Natural Vitamin E Dramatically Reduces Heart Disease,

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled

cardiovascular study evaluating natural vitamin E, synthetic vitamin C, and

synthetic beta-carotene has shown that natural vitamin E reduced cardiovascular

death or serious cardiovascular disease by a statistically significant 13%, the

primary end point of the study. Natural vitamin E also showed improvement in

secondary end points, including a 22% reduction in heart attacks, a 27%

reduction in strokes (31% when combined with vitamin C), and a 9% reduction in

cardiovascular death. These results for natural vitamin E are nothing short of

astounding as they used the gold standard of human testing!

a.. Blueberries for Your Brain, Friday, August 10, 2007

United States Department of Agriculture scientists are

conducting some rather interesting animal experiments with blueberry extracts.

In one experiment they fed blueberry extracts to middle-aged mice that were

already developing brain plaque (similar to early onset Alzheimer's). The

blueberry did not get rid of the plaque, rather it improved brain function so

that the blueberry fed rats had similar cognitive abilities to mice with no

brain plaques and significantly better cognitive function than mice with brain

plaques who were not fed blueberry extract....

August 06, 2007

Monsanto, a company famous for its lead role in using synthetic

growth hormone to boost milk production, the toxic sweetener aspartame, the

alteration of our food supply with genetically modified trash masquerading as

food, and poisoning the entire world with PCBs may have finally seen the

beginning of the end. Monsanto has hoodwinked and bought off the FDA and EPA

for years. But now consumer preferences are causing big changes....

a.. Blueberries May Protect Against Colon Cancer, Thursday,

July 26, 2007

A recent animal study shows that a novel component in

blueberries called pterostilbene reduced colon cancer by 57%. Pterostilbene is

also known to specifically enhance the metabolism of cholesterol and

triglycerides, thus promoting health in a variety of different ways.

a.. The Gross Negligence of Over-Medicating Children,

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

A new study documents that giving speed to children to treat ADD

or ADHD stunts growth and development. After three years on these commonly

prescribed drugs children have failed to gain ¾ inch in height and almost 6

pounds of weight. Furthermore, this ground is not made up if the drug is

discontinued - meaning that the loss of growth is a permanent adverse affect of

the medication. Thanks mom and dad.

a.. Did Monsanto, General Electric, Westinghouse, and Bayer

cause a generation of children with ADD?, Monday, July 02, 2007

There is no debate that Monsanto created an industrial toxin

called a PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl), and with the help of major license

holders such as GE, Westinghouse, and Bayer produced over 1.5 billion pounds of

PCBs, an environmental disaster which is now directly linked to the cause of

learning disabilities and ADD in children.

a.. Sun-Paranoid Cancer Societies Struggle to Promote Vitamin

D, Tuesday, June 12, 2007

In the face of mounting evidence that proper vitamin D levels

significantly reduce overall cancer risk, especially for colon cancer, both the

Canadian and American Cancer Societies are caught in a dilemma: how to increase

vitamin D intake which comes naturally from sun exposure while warning people to

stay out of the sun. This dilemma is further deepened by the fact that....

a.. Antibiotics in Children Cause Asthma, Monday, June 11,

2007

A new Canadian study shows a clear link between the number of

courses of antibiotics as an infant and the risk for developing asthma. As

reported by HealthDay, " Kids who received one to two courses of antibiotics had

a 21 percent increased risk of asthma; those given three to four courses of

antibiotics had a 30 percent rise in risk; while youngsters given more than four

courses of antibiotics had a 46 percent increased risk of asthma. "

a.. Folic Acid Reduces the Risk of a First Stroke by Twenty

Five Percent, Sunday, June 03, 2007

A study that is sure to irritate the Big Pharma drug-pushing

cartel was published by The Lancet in their June 2, 2007 issue. Despite pushing

over 20 billion dollars worth of statin drugs each year down the throats of

Americans for prevention of heart disease, when in fact there is no statistical

evidence that a statin drug can prevent a first stoke at all, it now comes to

pass that a simple B vitamin can do the job of stroke prevention far more

effectively. This new study lends support to another study published last month

showing that folic acid could dramatically decrease the thickening of the

coratid artery over a two-year period.

a.. Parkinson's Disease and Brain Tumors Linked to Pesticide

Exposure, Friday, June 01, 2007

Pesticides are nerve toxins, many of which were originally

developed by the Germans in WWI and WWII for use as chemical weapons. Following

these wars the Rockefellers concocted the " Green Revolution, " whereby crop

yields were increased by poisoning insects with these biological weapons.

Insects have developed resistance, leading to higher doses and other more toxic

chemicals being applied to crops, residues of which are consumed regularly and

are a likely cause of health decline.

a.. Soft Drinks May Cause DNA Damage and Increase Cancer Risk,

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

The highly addictive sugar-laden and chemically sweetened

beverages known as soft drinks have come under new fire. If it isn't enough to

know that one drink a day increases the risk for diabetes and obesity, then

maybe DNA damage and increased cancer risk will grab the attention of those

wishing to consume.
