Guest guest
Hi: If it is 4X better than acetyl-l-carnitine, then it is simple to compute its value vs acetyl-l-carnitine. This bottle has 100 caps with 320 mg ALCA and 300 mg ALC, so each cap has 1.58 gm equivalent of ALC and at about $35/bottle (member, 4 bottle price) 25/158 gm = $0.22 per gram equivalent of ALC. ALC alone sells at some <http://www.americannutrition.com/store/acetyl_alpha.html>discount and bulk vitamin stores in powder or even in caps at as low as $0.15 per gram. One can argue that LEF has great quality, of course. I suggest, based on the research of Bruce Ames, Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, that you also be certain to take alpha lipoic acid and biotin at the same time. This will help give you lots of energy, burn fat, increase insulin sensitivity. ALC(A) and ALA are very synergistic and biotin helps them do their work. How much of each of these things are you taking? Quantity, source? I'm looking for the best source for curcumin especially. ALCA, Resveratrol, Blueberry, Curcumin, Green Tea, Quercetin, Fish Oil. New research also highly implicates high blood sugar in Alzheimers, some researchers believing it to be the main cause. Do you carefully monitor and control your blood glucose? Guest guest
Ever try a 2gm (or more) dose of regular 'ol ALC? Works for me! Great for exercise too. Guest guest
Dave: I have been taking 500 mg/day for several years now. I have never noticed anything special, but I am convinced that it it is a good idea. However, I may not be taking enough to do any noticeable good.. What have you discerned regarding exercise? How much do you take? Have you been able to tell a difference with regard to quantity? Also, where do you buy it by the kilo? Guest guest
I weigh 195 lbs and I need at least a gram to notice anything. Usually greater energy, increased concentration, more stamina, etc. However, 2 1/2 or more grams can frequently leave me feeling overstimulated (similar to too much caffeine). For myself, the optimal dosage is one that produces a very mild " prickling " sensation, not unlike a niacin flush (without the heat or flush, and not unpleasant). For aerobic exercise, I take it with carnosine (3.5 grams) and Idebenone, occasionally theanine, sometimes some Piracetam. For anaerobic, I take it with creatine and follow exercise with whey protein and a very modest amount of honey or sugar to facilitate recovery. Guest guest
Hi Dave: Yes... you forgot to tell me about your Kilo source. The nest question is: will ALC and L-Arigine be equal to ALC Arginate... since I already take them separately? Any ideas? ? I weigh 150 lbs and took 1 1/2 grams ALC before tennis today (judging from your experience). I did not get the flush that you mentioned. Guess I'll try 2 grams & see how that works. I played well and had an exceptional day, so maybe it contributed, but it is hard to tell. Guest guest
I bought some from DNP http://www.dnpint.com/products/nutritional.asp I also bought carnosine from them. They charge minimums for shipping and breaking up drums. I've bought from these guys http://www.nootrition.com/osCommerce/catalog/index.php and www.1fast400.com . I don't work for either of them. I've found the only way to be able to afford taking these supplements at the required dosages is to buy them in bulk. Most keep very well if sealed and kept cool and dark. Vacuum sealing is even better. Guest guest
It's not really a " flush " like you get with niacin, but it was the closest thing I could think of that compares to the ALC " flush " (a prickly sensation). Try 2, then 2.5, then 3 until you feel something. An empty stomach helps. Also, I typically take it with a high dose of carnosine before running, and carnosine also creates the " prickly " sensation - So that might be masking it a bit.
