Guest guest
I am the chapter leader for the LaCrosse Weston A. Price Foundation and the owner of Blackberry Ridge Eco-Farm & Ranch. (BRLLC@...) One of your twin cities members has been buying my 100% grass-fed organic meat for a while and urged me to make my products available to the rest of you. We raise beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and turkey on our farm near the Mississippi River. All our animals range outside and all are organic. We view organic certification as the bottom line and go much deeper into traditional organics. Our farm supports a diversity of plants (pastures are legume and herb based, with hedgerows and forest land supporting wild life) and animals to more closely mimic a natural eco-system. This method of farming, while more difficult, creates healthy animals that do not need non-organic methods of parasite control or other medical interventions. I looked into supplying a widely popular 100% grass-fed beef company sold in stores in the area that is not organic, but the allowed use of fertilizers on the hay and pastures, use of chemical wormers, and non-organic mothers(they purchase feeders), did not meet our standards. Buying certified organic hay is a huge expense, but with the growing infiltration of round-up ready GMO hay (which cross- pollinates much more quickly than corn did), I believe this is a necessary pre-caution. We are just one small family farm and could not supply a large population base such as the Twin Cities, but we are available to the smaller group of individuals who want their meat to be 100% grass- fed and organic. Both parts of the equation are important especially when considering organ meats (which we carry). Our website is still under construction, but I can send pictures, answer any questions, and farm tours are always available. We sell our ground beef at People's Food Co-op in LaCrosse (we have been there for 3 years). Our next shipment should have our Organic seal on it. We are also members of the American Grassfed Association, Weston A. Price Foundation, Slow Food, and Wild Farm Alliance. Our farm email is BRLLC@... we can arrange delivery to you at a convenient spot, including chapter meetings. Thank You, Janice Blair
