Well, this is not necessarily an official pleastic netti pot, but my darling 2

1/2 yo daughter got a plastic (much to my shegrin as we do natural toys) tea set

for Christmas. She did not know what to make of the stuff, but started to do

her 2 1/2 yo stuff and make it up as you go and she promptly took the small

plastic tea pot, dipped it into the cat dish and said---------------------Mama,

look, I have my own netti pot. Well, since then, she has had a cold and has

reached for her 'netti pot' and went through the motions of using it-------we

went to the tub----I got her all set up with the solution and she used it! So,

some gifts at first glance are confusing, but now we have a plastic netti pot

(and a bunch of plastic forks and cups etc for playing in the tub.

A plastic netti pot can be found at a thrift store or Toys R Us in the plastic

tea set section!

Happy searching, Karla

Oh Karla, that is the best story! Sounds like you have a true healer on your

hands.

hello again

i have had good luck finding Netti Pots on eBay in assorted sizes, styles, and

materials. i also once found some discounted small plastic watering pots for a

buck apiece that were perfect. you can always sand down the spout to make sure

it's not sharp. the child's teapot sounds darling, a regular teapot might do

as well in a pinch. my problem is i always end up giving them away & my kids

keep stealing/borrowing mine. can one ever have enough Netti Pots? lol. i

think not.

Krista,

I don't know if you found one or not, but I just noticed that they

sell plastic Netti pots at Seward Co-op ($16.99), there were several

on the shelf. They also have some really handsome pottery

(handthrown?) netti pots for about the same price.

I'm wondering why you all even use a netti pot. I just mix up salt water

solution, pour it in my hand and " snort " it. It works great and no equipment

needed other than the cup for salt water! Can someone enlighten me???

I don't like " snorting " anything. I think I watched too many " don't do

drugs " movies as an adolescent and they happened to work on me:)

How about a small plant watering pot? Just cut off the spout, like someone

else suggested, and file it smooth.

(And I don't use salt water, just warm filtered water.)

Warmly,

beth

I've used a Netti pot in the past when I've had a cold in my sinuses. Lately

I've been using the Xlear nasal wash in those situations, which thankfully

have gotten rather infrequent. I also recently saw some drops for adding to

the water in the Netti pot, I can't remember what was in it.

Do any of you add anything to the water besides salt? How effective is it

without the salt?

Also, are you guys using as a preventative measure, as part of your regular

hygeine? Or (I hope not) are y'all suffering from a lot of sinus issues?

Peace,

Hi Mara,

I use kosher sea salt in my neti pot. When I learned how to do it

the person said Iodized salt may burn. I've never tried it to find

out. I use it on an occasional basis when my mucous membranes (in the

nose) feel like they are starting to get dry. In order to do their job

well, they need to be moist.

I did see something on the news not that long ago that an ENT (ear,

nose, throat) physician recommend neti wash for her patients and found

it to be very effective for those who suffer from allergies and also as

a means to prevent colds. It flushes out all of the irritants and

bacteria lurking where it isn't wanted. She had a 'recipe' that

included salt and maybe baking soda, but I like it with just the salt

myself.

Since we are talking about it, I'm going to do a neti wash

tonight. My nose always feels so much better afterwards and breathing

seems easier.
