A little OT: Tinctures, EOs/FOs and soap

Hello everybody

I have a question about FOs - I know, it is an horrible word :-). Can

someone of the group tell me what they are composed of. Are they really

oils? or something else?

The reason I am asking is because when making soaps, soapmakers add EOs

or FOs for smell and/or therapeutic effects.

But I would like to try... tinctures (for the fragrance and for

lowering prices and for staying more natural than with FOs).

All the soapmakers I asked say that alcohol damage the saponification

process.

Can someone comment on this please.
