What is the FISH test?

ansiosamjm <usameza@...> wrote:

Hi Tracey,I wrote to you before but i accidentally pressed the wrong button and erased the whole thing. My dd has an abnormal thumb and had a hypoplastic floating thumb taken off at 1 week. Are they sure there are not bone abnormalities in the vertebrae? I know you mentioned the abnormal bones inthe arms and hands. Our dd has abnormal shoulder bones and an extra bone there. I did find that the curve gets worse when they are just walking, their muscle control and balance is not fully developed and in my opinion exacerbates the curve until after 2 years . We are also going to the geneticist and are planning to do the FISH test inthe near future. Good luck with the MRI. have them explain what is normal and stuff on it. If you can.

I know actually what you two are talking about.. Before TP and once ammonia levels got real high I was a medication Technician.. I had to quit working I handled two floors with four med passes, also treatments etc..Once the hep kicked in I couldn't remember my phone number ok.. This can be dangerous if you can't remember nothing.. Now I just blame it on menopause..Kathy B

Thanks Tracey, next time I see the doc Im going to ask for something else thats not so strong..during Tx I was fine with it(most of the time). I'm on a small dose of prozac and walk around like a (what I call) "dweeb.

But I've been like this since high school. I've tried glasses, working out, vitamins....

It might have something to do with the chemicals going back to what they were before the prozac.

A friend of mine told me to do word puzzles (crosswords, word search, scrabble) to keep the brain working out.

Tracey,

do you think your son's gut was in good shape when you tried enzymes. I am

nervous about trying because I think her gut is hurting so badly.

Re: emotional on enzymes

my son became quite emotional and cranky when we first started houstons

enzymes. but, within a few short weeks, he began to speak, his eye contact

improved dramatically, became noticably more social, became happier and just

an

all around more aware child. shortly after starting the enzymes, he began

counting to ten on his own, started dressing himself, picked up 200+ words and

became even more social. it's an adjustment period. make sure you are

building him up to the full capsule dose. i hear this is important for some

children. doing enzymes for my son has been the most important intervention

that

we've done with him so far. without question, he has had the most noticable

gains with them. for one year, it was the only supplement he took and he had

the most improvement with them alone. hope this helps. any more questions,

feel free to e-mail me directly.

julie,

looking back, i think my son's gut was probably not in good shape. honestly, i

started my son on enzymes after hearing about it from a mom who had her son on

them. it was my first " biomedical " experience in treating his autism. didn't

even know it was an option. heard about them on a tuesday, called and spoke to

devin houston on a wednesday to ensure their safety and had them on my front

doorstep on thursday. the rest is history. i didn't even read karen's book

till 6 months later. my point is... don't wait. they are so good for them. my

son celebrated his 4th birthday last week. we started houston's with him when

he was about 2 1/2. i believe strongly that doing so kept him from further gut

problems or regressing even more. he is not recovered yet, but well on his

way. making progress every day. we've had some yeast/bacteria setbacks this

year due to chelation but i believe that the enzymes helped to heal his gut as

much as possible. i hope this helps. anymore questions, please ask them.

I agree that we need to see the opthamologist rather then the optomitrist

but was just surprised when the rheumy said either was fine.

Dear Veri,

I just wanted to respond to the " optometrist vs. ophthalmologist " thought . . .

.. . I myself (no uveitis or eye issues) see an optometrist for myself, and she's

very thorough (because she says my family eye history is very scary, and she

wants to make sure she doesn't miss anything). However, when I first went to

her and was telling her about my daughter's uveitis (because I had to list it on

the health history form), she was telling me that she wouldn't be able to treat

anyone with uveitis, because she is not able to prescribe steroid drops as an

optometrist.

When my daughter was first diagnosed with JRA (over seven years ago), her

pediatric rheumatologist said that I should take her to a pediatric

ophthalmologist, because a pediatric ophthalmologist would be more familiar with

JRA and uveitis. Having a child who has uveitis, I am most comfortable with a

professional who is definitely familiar with both the JRA and uveitis.

Hope it's okay that I " jumped in here " with my thoughts!

Tammy (mom to , age 9, with pauci-articular JA and related uveitis)

Tracey

I am sorry you feel the same way I do about the rheumy. At least with

Jaye, she can tell me how she feels and if something is stiff or not.

With

Madi you are dealing with a baby that can not communicate very well. I have

seriously thought about trying to find a ped rheumy in Oklahoma City or even

Tulsa just to get a second opinion. I will not do that now, but I sure might

in the future if we have more trouble. I think you told me that you take

Madi to see Dr. Jantz, is that right. sees either him or a and they

are both so very thourough. When we see 's neurologist we have never had

an appointment with him that he was not with us for at least 25 minutes, so

I am spoiled.

Do you get regular blood work done on Madi? Is she on Mtx? And who do you

see for her eyes? Today, the rheumy said that an optomotrist could do as good a

job checking as the opthomologist. Dr. Jantz had told me no that we

needed the opthmalogist.

As I remember, he is thorough and will look her over pretty well. He will spend

time w/ you but I am not sure about question answering. He may answer them but

act pretty cocky about it. I don't know...maybe it was just me...but he sure

rubbed me the wrong way! At one point, Elaney was not wanting to take meds so I

decided to stop them just to see what would happen and she went into remission

for 1 and 1/2 yrs.! This made him mad so he switched us to the other doctor

without telling us. It was the best thing he could have done because the other

dr was awesome. (But he just left recently.) So I really hope that all works out

for you and it will probably help that you have your husband with you. Maybe the

dr will relate better to another man. (How annoying!?!) When is your

appt?--- & Elaney

ztaimw <nsigns@...> wrote: Ugh.....that is not what I wanted to

hear ! But glad to know

that going into it. I just took the first available appt., so I

guess we wait and see how it goes. My husband will be with us-as he

is usually not, so I hope that helps. I always feel so intimidated

and then don't say what I want to and forget to ask the questions I

have-even if I write them down! Anyway, is he a thorough dr? Did he

take time to answer any questions you had or discuss any problems or

concerns you were having? Do they examine each joint, or just get an

overall general view of things from you? I am very uncomfortable

with this approach-I feel like they are expecting me to know

everything, and with Madi being so little and not talking much yet, I

don't want to be the one " missing " something that is important.

Maybe it's just like this for everybody and I'm expecting too much?

Oh well, I feel good about checking into another rheumy, and maybe we

can meet Dr. Becker also, just in case. :-)

Thanks for your info,

Tracey & Madi

PS-Glad you finally found a doc that knew what he was doing!

Is it Dr. Lasky? I hate to say this but I did not like him to well.

Maybe it was just the situation we were in. He is a bit blunt and

assumed we knew everything we SHOULD know but did not. He was the dr

that replaced our original dr. I remember him saying " Oh you will

like me because I am just like your first doctor. " Then, he

proceeded to say that everything that our first doctor said to do was

wrong! Well, hopefully you will like him and if not, maybe you could

try Dr. Becker. Good luck.--- & Elaney

>

> PS---We went to the orthotist today and got Elaney's brace padded

for that silly sternum. He acted like he knew what the problem was

with her sternum. He said the cartilage may not be strong enough and

that it is buckling outward. He said that bracing usually helps that.

WOW, that is the first time I have heard anybody act like they may

know what is up with that sternum! It makes me feel hopeful that we

may be on the right track.
