The birthday girl was up and ready to go this morning, looking very

fancy in her black gaucho pants (that are too long, of course) and

maroon velour top. accessorized her outfit with one of her

necklaces that matched perfectly with 's top, and then told

that she could have it....... she was old enough to take care

of it........ that was really cool. Off to school, with Daddy following

along behind, carrying the cupcakes, the birthday girl was ready to meet

her day.

I have to go shopping to try and find this hair gem thing that they have

been advertising on TV..... it's dumb, but she REALLy thinks she wants

it, and she can almost recite the commercial..... " and it doesn't pull

or tangle hair " . We will have dinner tonight at her favorite restraunt,

Souplantation, and have cake and presents at home after. I wanted to

celebrate yesterday, since we had no school and it would have been much

easier, but " NO, MY BIRTHDAY IS ON JANUARY 16TH MOM " and that is

apparently when we will celebrate every year!

I always get so emotional on her birthday, thinking back to the horrible

time in the hospital, with the surprising diagnosis, the shock and

grief, the uncertaintly about the future, and now looking at what a neat

kid she is, how much she can do, how much she adds to our family, how

loving and sweet she is. One thing has not come true however..... for

some reason I remember the geneticist saying out of the " first night "

fog of information.... " she will play soccer and do whatever the other

kids are doing " ........ well, she does not play soccer (but she could,

if she wanted to :-)..... she perfers to do gymnastics and read, but I

will always remember his line about soccer :-)
