I use Nordic Naturals, http://www.nordicnaturals.com/

It tastes muchless fishy than Carlson's, which is a good sign. Also the la=

bel shows

higher A and lower D (but still high in D) than Carlson's. I buy it at Whol=

e Foods.

I buy organic milk. Horizon brand. I get their cheese and yogurt too. I don't think they add fake thinks to my milk.

Hi

I know you are sure you are getting good wholesome milk but maybe

this will help you to understand how we get organic milk with

synthetic vitamin D2.

When a cow is milked at the farm, the milk is called raw milk before

is goes to the dairy. In most states unless you have a special

license from the state health department, raw milk is not legal to

sell. A family living on a dairy farm will drink raw whole milk if

they bring the milk to the kitchen before it is sent to the dairy.

That milk may or may not be considered organic. If the farmer feeds

organic feeds, without using bovine hormone or antibiotics this may

be considered organic milk but it is still raw or untouched. There

are many farmers who when producing raw milk is not organic because

they use pesticides, herbicides, inject bovine hormone, antibiotics

etc. This milk contains vitamin D3 by virtue of the fact it has not

been pasteurized or homogenized, organic or not.

After the milk is picked up at the farm and sent to the milk

processing facility where it is homogenized and pasteurized, the milk

will have a synthetic vitamin added back in - that is unfortuantely

true even at Horizon. It's a bummer... The homogenization process

prevents the cream from rising to the top as it does when it's raw.

The process makes the fat into little tiny pellets that that are

dispersed throughout the milk.

The vitamin D is removed in the process and the vitamin D2 (synthetic)

is added back in. Two reasons why people cannot tolerate milk - one

is due to a lack of the enzyme lactase in the gut and the other is

the inability to absorb the fat pellets.

The term organic does not imply raw.

Organic milk is pasteurized and homogenized per USDA requirement. In

the process of preparing milk for distribution, the fat is

dramatically changed.

The link below mentions the issue of D2 and D3 but not the

explanation.

I spent alot of nights in the barn milking cows as a kid growing up

on a midwestern farm.

http://www.mercola.com/2002/jul/6/vitamin_d.htm

I hope this helps but it might not make you feel better about it.

I'm sorry about this...

Thanks.

The D-2 is not harmful, it's just not helpful so it's good to have the cod liver oil.cellercise <marycochran@...> wrote:

Have you tried Cod Liver Oil? It makes me burp all day long, it is

gross. I would love to get it into my body but unfortunately it just

does not agree with me. I get my fish oil from other sources like

salmon and sardines.

,

Thank you for bringing up these important points. I've been buying

raw milk and raw milk products for probably 6 months now and I love

it. I won't go back to the store bought stuff! I go to extra

lengths to get it, but it is worth it. And not even expensive! It

is very reasonably priced!

You can find sources for raw milk here:

HI,

I have avoided Carlson's despite the fact that Dr. Mercola " highly

recommends it " (forgive me for saying this but while he has some great

information he always comes across to me as " full of himself " :))because

it was expensive and I could get Garden of Life's brand for cheaper and

their products are supposed to be all natural and really good quality.

Anyway.

You might want to check out Garden of Life's CLO called " Olde World

Icelandic CLO " You can contact the company for more information. Here is

what they say about it:

" Olde World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is the most natural and carefully

tested cod liver oil available. The oil comes from the pure cold waters

of Iceland and is cold processed using traditional methods that ensure

all of the naturally occurring vitamins and Omega-3 essential fatty

acids remain intact.

Olde World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is the best source for natural levels

of vitamins A and D. It also is a rich source of DHA, EPA and other

essential Omega-3 fatty acids.

Other cod liver oils remove the naturally occurring vitamin A and D

during the deodorization process and then supplement the finished

product with a synthetic form of these vitamins. Garden of Life’s Old

World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is undeodorized, unbleached and contains

only the naturally occurring vitamins A and D.

Old World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is made with a pleasant tasting all

natural lemon-mint flavor to eliminate the fishy aftertaste reminiscent

of your grandma’s cod liver oil.

Our product has been nitrogen flushed to ensure freshness and prevent

oxidation. "

I hope this helps.

>>I've been taking CLO by the manufacturer that is often mentioned here

and on the WAPF site. As we are preparing for pregnancy I decided to

check more closely on the contents of the CLO. To my shock I found

out that it contains soy oil and synthetic vitamins.

Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil is manufactured by Möller in

Norway (http://www.petermoller.com/). In Scandinavia the same product

is called Möller's cod liver oil. I requested the National agency for

medicine to deliver me a product information sheet on Möller/Carlson

cod liver oil.

This is what it states under 'Additives' or 'Helper substances' (I

don't know what's the correct translation as the text is in finnish):

Natural tocopherols (soy oil concentrate 70%), synthetic dl-

alphatocopherol-acetate, retinylpalmitate-concentrate (incl.

synthetic retinylpalmitate and peanut oil), cholecalciferol

concentrate (incl. synthetic cholecalciferol and vegetable oil).

The lemon flavor version includes also: saccharinsolution (incl.

ethanol), lemon flavor

I think Carsonlabs or some authority should provide you with similar

information on request.

I'm a bit depressed and angry at the moment as I've gulping that

stuff 2 tbs a day. Anyone know of CLO products that are true pure CLO<<

I would have to question Garden of Life's CLO as well. I used to use it,

but it seemed odd to me that they say refrigeration is not necessary. When

I questioned them about their product I receive the same generic " We cannot

reveal proprietary information " answer.

Hmm.. I am currently using the blue ice CLO, but I have a couple of

bottles of Garden of Life's CLO. It says " refrigerate after

opening " . They do say you can leave it unrefrigerated for a few days

at a time.

When is CLO not CLO?

Looking at walmart's "Norwegian" Cod liver oil. I noticed the label said 344 mg DHA per tablespoon. That's low. Then I noticed the ingredients. Anyone would expect CLO to be the first ingredient, right? No, it's water.

In the CVS variety, the one ingredient is CLO.

You gotta read the labels.

No CLO with Dr. G. Honestly guys, Dr. G does not want you on any supplements at

all other than a normal multi vitamin and iron, if you need it. He also allows

kyodophilus and Evening Primrose. To my knowledge, that's it as far as

supplements. Limited melatonin is okay but he'd prefer you don't use it at all

and he approves of 1 protein powder, I can't remember the name.

He does not do supplements.

Hmmm............we started with Dr G in Aug 2009. We specifically asked him

about Fish Oil and he said we could use it as long as it was NOT just Omega-3

(ours is Omega Complete 3,6,9) and it had to be Pharmaceutical Grade. We also

use Custom Probiotics (cultures measure 250 BILLION per serving) which we also

got approved by Dr. G!!

I would suggest to everyone to SPECIFICALLY ask Dr. G (or whomever your doctor

is) about supplements you may wish to start your child on! As opposed to just

guessing!!!

Just a thought!!

Have a blessed day!

If anyone remembers the name of the protein powder Dr. G approves of, I would

appreciate the name. Thanks!

Well, that was after we stopped seeing him. But I have to say, that's more than

anyone I've ever known has gotten him to approve.
