Guest guest
Hi This is a great idea. Yes, teachers have to spend a lot of their own money on classroom supplies. And also on various memberships that are required, insurance, etc. Dad to , Kristi, (all three Down syndrome) and (Cri du chat) Husband to C. in Mo. Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Wow, you are student teaching...how exciting! What grade are you teaching and how much longer do you have until graduation? I'm learning quickly, as a student teacher, , how much DOES come out of the teacher's pocket. I better start a savings account now for when I get my own classroom! Jackie, Mom to 15ds, 13 (as of Sept. 2), and Bradley
Guest guest
Yes, teachers spend a lot out of pocket. I try to buy for Bridget's class some of the extras. mom to Bridget 10 ds Re: stupid question here - school fees Everyone except me! No walmart here. But we got great sales like 2 weeks ago at staples- 10¢ for folders, 6 notebooks for $1, etc.... got some good stuff for the kids and for myself- back at work for me and teachers buy alot of the supplies themselves! The supplies are not unreasonable for our kids (all kids)- teachers are also spending out of pocket alot- anyone else wanna confirm that??????? Guest guest
What a great idea!!! Our PTO gives each teacher $100 at the beginning of the school year. mom to Bridget 10 Re: stupid question here - school fees Can I say that tonight, at the PTO meeting, we approved a letter being sent out to the area businesses? Guest guest
I have also purchased supplies at Office Depot, Office Max and Staples. Prices are just as good as at WalMart, with less crowds! Our teachers do spend a lot of money out of pocket. And, IMHO, the salaries are not that great for what they do. I also try to buy extras, etc.. The businesses around here are great at sponsoring events for the school, and giving items for raffles, fundraisers, etc. That money mainly goes to the PTA. Our teachers have a say in how the PTA spends money. For example, a year ago this past May, about 6 hours after school had let out for the summer, there was an electrical fire in our library and we lost all the electrical equipment, mainframe computers, and everything in the library. The insurance didn't cover replacement value on the books, so the PTA took up the slack, and our fundraising money went toward that. This year part of our fundraiser money is going to purchase a voice mail system for the teachers to help with communication with parents, etc.. This was requested by the teachers. The PTA also gives money to the teachers for their use in their classrooms. And don't worry, first day of school we get our fundraiser packet! Sharon H. Guest guest
Oh, Jackie you dont scare us- we can party with the best of em and now that youll already be 40, youll be allowed to really let your hair down- although beth (the baby) and cindy (surprise surprise) do pretty well! Those are 2 great assignments and its a good thing they are so different. As a teacher one never knows where they will be or what kind of class or position one may get- better to be prepared for anything/everything! Cant talk right now about my new position- ive been hinting about it all week- lets just say since i havent worked in 14 months, like is very different..... ~ Mom to 13 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 9 NY
Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome back after your hectic summer of moving. I had to laugh when I read that you referred to it as the " lost summer. " I feel the same way, having moved also, back in May, and still have not completely settled in. My goal was to have all three boys rooms painted, bordered and new dressers and desks for them by the start of the school year. I finished the night before school started! Whew! Needless to say, I didn't get a whole lot of the boxes unpacked that are still in my basement! I figure what I don't touch in those boxes, till I get around to it, is probably stuff I really don't need afterall! My first placement is a first grade classroom. My cooperating teaching is wonderful and after one week, handed over 50% of the teaching to me. She gave me my first eval last week and I did extremely well......being a mother has prepared me well.....moreso than the younger student teachers. I feel comfortable everytime I'm in front of the class and I am just DYING to do this on my own......with my own style! The workload is overwhelming, as far as having to write full-blown lesson plans for everything I teach (which are about 4 pages long) in addition to planning and teaching a Unit with 7-10 lessons. I have no life, right now, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My second placement is a sixth grade english/grammar class in one of our city schools, and then I graduate on December 13th. The two placements couldn't be any more different....one rural, one urban, one lower grade, one upper grade. I can hardly wait!!!!! I graduate on December 13th. I also turn 40 in January, so I want a huge blow-out of a party to celebrate both things! I think I deserve it...LOL. Watch out, , I'm coming to Lancaster this winter to let my hair down! Glad to hear that your new school district for is working out splendidly. Keep me up to date on his progress. By the way, we're having a big party for 's 16th birthday on October 25 at our local rec center. 125 people invited, with a DJ and all. He is sooooooo excited!
