My hubby cooks. He loves to try new things......but our busy lives don't

lend to the time needed to be as creative as we'd like to be. We usually end up

making the same " quick " meals, which Don does just as much as I do. Someday

maybe we'll have more time.........

LOL..... I cook for a number of reasons:

1. Joe is on the road.... so that leaves it up to me

2. I'm Italian.... I'll just leave it at that.

Hi

I'm not much of a cook. I used to make chili and biscuits and gravy back

when we ate that kind of food. does most of the cooking and is real

good at it. I take a big role in all of the other " domestic " areas that men

used to avoid but are now taking part in and I really like it

My hubby cooks and makes it look easy, but doesn't do it near enough. Maybe I

should have not liked it so much at first or shown him how good I am, lol!

I can follow a recipe without any problem, usually comes out fine. I can't

just open the refrigerator and pantry and pull a few things out, throw them

together, and have anything edible come out. But my husband can, and it

always tastes great. And Mike is great on the grill, and really enjoys it

too.

My husband always said he could cook but the only thing I ever heard

of him cooking was eggs. I wouldn't have wanted to eat anything he cooked!!!.

He would get anybody to do it, if possible. The kids, probably the dog if he

could have managed. Jessie

My husband is a better cook than I am. At least I tell him that to

encourage him to keep cooking. ;)

I do the cooking at our house .... I love cooking and I am an EXCELLENT

cook.

I don't know about more men cooking but honey, I sure have met SO many

women who do not cook! I would never want to miss out on so much fun. And there

are few restaurants around here we would rather go to then eat one of my

creations! ;-)

My husband is prepared to learn ... he is going to retire and I will be

working. This will be something for our family! He does the occassional

grilling but no main meals, except for breakfasts. My kids are not looking

forward

to this switch. ;-)

My brother can cook ALMOST as well as I, we learned together and he does

all the cooking at his house. Everytime he walks in my door, he will lift all

the lids on the pots bubbling on the stove and taste and critique what is

simmering.

HI Cheryl :)

LOL OK I am one of them lol yes I cook but I try to get out of it at every

chance lolol it goes way back to my childhood. I was never let in the kitchen as

a child to cook, only on Christmas occasions was I able to make the Christmas

cookies and that was frosting them lol

When I was dieting I learned how to cook lite, the dishes were awesome and I

lost weight .......... the problem was my hubby didn't appreciate the healthy

way of eating so I had to go back to the good old southern way. Mike isn't a

picky eater, will eat almost anything (you all remember the cereal commercial?

" give it to Mikey he wont eat it " and then the kid does, well this is the

standing joke in our house, Mike will eat anything lol) anyway I think it boils

down to my creativity in the kitchen is stifled by my family members. One

doesn't like and refuses to eat mushrooms, one hates sour cream, one hates

onions

and bell peppers and another is not a meat eater (Sara) Myself. I eat lite and

little portions, my snacking was always my problem lol

off, reminds me of the old Shoney buffet breakfast bar :)

Hi :)

Oooh my gosh yes, I never know who will home for dinner because of their

schedules ................... the 2 little girls I keep I usually feed dinner

Wed,

Thurs., and Fridays lol I can count on them to eat :) and Sara's always ready

for a meal unless she's outside playing with her friends, then she says Im

not hungry, trick is to invite her friends to come eat :)

Same here - that and people who are not hungry. My biggest problem is time - by

the time I get home, it's after 6:00 (and hubby may get home around 3:00 and

doesn't have a clue that maybe he should get something started).

I caught cracking eggs into the skillet last night - maybe he will turn

While I am sincerely happy for the women who enjoy the cooking that is

expected of them, I am not one of them. However, I do love doing laundry and

don't even mind cleaning bathrooms.

I'm afraid that there is still a lot of sexism regarding whose role it is

to do the cooking. Here in the DC area, there are a lot of men retiring in

their 50's, and just like Cheryl's situation, the wives often continue to

work. Unfortunately, I don't know of too many cases in which the at-home

males have taken over the grocery shopping and cooking.

As for male cooks: my uncle, the chemical engineer, is a master chef.

Growing up, everyone was always thrilled to have him visit on holidays, not

only because we really enjoyed his company, but because all we had to do was

set the table.

My oldest daughter's boyfriend, who grew up in a very conservative

European country, made quite an impression on his second visit to our home

when he cooked the dinner for us!

Great aim, ! The time that Danny tried cooking eggs, most ended up

on the counter or stove top.

My dad use to make breakfast for us on weekends. Now that he is alone, he cooks

many of his own meals. He quit watching Emeril when he figured out that Emeril

would leave stuff out.

Our other Matt cooks when he comes here. Last weekend, he made steak, chicken

and shrimp Kabobs. Tim's second cousin (Sonny) is the best Italian cook (he's

half hungarian and half Italian - I can match him on the Hungarian stuff). When

both of his parents were alive, they had two kitchens (and their house was very

small!). Aunt had hers and cooked all the hungarian food and Uncle Lee had

his and cooked all the Italian foods. Meals at their house were wonderful,

especially at Christmas time.

And Bev, you are right about men in our area retiring at age 50. Tim will in 5

years and 2 months when he turns 50!

Some years ago my cousin's son, Joe, who has DS, found himself alone

for a little while in the afternoon so he decided to start supper. So he

started opening cans. He had opened quite a few cans of beans when it occurred

to

him that this might not be such a good idea. So he phoned his dad. Now his

dad worked at General Mills in Minneapolis (big company) but he managed to get

hold of him, and the main thing his dad told him was DON " T open any more

cans!!!!! They ate beans for quite awhile.

I love that one. Joe is now in his late 40's and is very much a

gentleman. He lives in a group home, has an apartment as I understand it, and

does

quite well. He does have sleep apnea but is otherwise quite healthy I think.

I haven't seen him for some time.

My husband did the laundry most of the time for years. I was

hospitalized with back problems and not allowed to do stairs for awhile and our

washer

and dryer were, and are, in the basement. Since he had his workshop down

there and was down there a lot he just took it down with him. And kept on even

when I was able to do it. There were times I did it so I didn't forget how,

but it was a help. I took over when he had his knees operated on and pretty

much did it after that.

Cooking was something else. Jessie
