I'm very sorry that your father died. I hope you have found some comfort

somehow. Even though I don't know you at all yet, and didn't know your

father, I do know that, whatever the circumstances, your dad's death was

most likely very difficult for you. Again, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry about your RA diagnosis, too, but you have come to a great place

for information and support. How was your diagnosis made? Do you have a

rheumatologist? What medications do you take? How are you feeling? With

school and work, you have a very full day, I'm sure. Please try to rest when

you can.

Welcome Colleen. It's nice to meet you. I was about your

age when I was diagnosed with RA.

Im now 47 and have had my share of ups and downs throughout

the course of this disease. At the moment, I am feeling

pretty good. Enbrel & Vioxx have helped control the

inflammation, and soon I'll be adding Arava to my cocktail.

I'm so sorry that you lost your father. It must have been

very difficult for you. I'm glad you found us and hope that

you stay painless in Apalachin.

weeks and haven't had

Well I was unfortunate when I was diagnosed because I lost my insurance

because I turned 23. Right now all I can do is take Over the counter

medications becasue my school insurance that I just got on will not cover

pre-existing conditions. My RA isn't quite as bad as I have read some of

yours to be. I have fare-ups, espeically with the stress of my father's

death. Right now I take anything that works for me. I have found Aleve to

work miracles. My sister in law has RA very bad. She can barely move at

times. Some mornings for me are bad and I can't even get out of bed.

(espeically early morning clinicals- I am a nursing student....started that

before I was diagnosed)....My work is as a CNA at an assisted living

community with Alzheimers patients. I love my work and it doesn't put alot

of stress on my body.

Anyways...my dad's death was a sudden thing. He died on his boat with

friends by a massive heart attack. It has been a difficult 2 weeks. I moved

back home to help my mom. My fiance is also living there off and on.

Well enough about me...I am just so glad I found this support group.

Wow Kim, I am sorry to hear that your mother has arthritis. Do you have any

of the symptoms because you say you think you are heading down that road..

Yeah it was difficult losing my father because I was so close to him. But

having people to talk to is great. I have so many friends at work, school

and everywhere else. And now I have added more friends by being a part of

this group.

Wow...mine started with stiffness in my whole body when I woke up. Then I

became depressed (before my dad's death) and the process just went on and

on. But I am glad that it hasn't hit me that hard yet. Maybe, just maybe, I

can beat it...I try to be optimistic about it...in hopes that I can continue

my dreams of being a psychiatric nurse.

Thanks for sending in your website. It's nice to put a face

on an email. We have a common love, camping! Although my

tent days are over, we have a pop-up and spend as much time

as we can in it. Even if we just get away for a weekend to

a nearby site, it is very relaxing and enjoyable.

I admire you for working with seniors with Alzheimer's. I

was a nursing student when I was diagnosed, but I dropped

out unfortunately after having my first of many knee

surgeries. I'm glad that you are able to work and go to

school, and pray that the Aleve continues to manage your

pain. Some insurance policies don't cover pre-existing

conditions for the first year or two, but after that they

usually cover them. Can you get a copy of your policy and

see what the conditions are?

The policy I have is through the school and they sent me only a book

about it. All it says is that pre-existing conditions are not covered. I am

going to look into it more though and also the website my brother had given

me to see what can be done. If all else fails, I just pray it won't get

worse and live with it til school is over in 2003.

I forgot all about my website. Because many people don't even look at

it. I love camping. It is harder now for me to sleep on the ground. But my

mother's camper has a bed and that is much better.

Well I gotta go try to sleep...pain tonight

it was my understanding that it is now the law that if you have proof of

medical coverage before for the same condition, it has to be covered.

Did that make sense?

If you were dx'd with, let's say asthma, and recieved treatment for it

on your last job, then your new employer cannot deny coverage. However,

if your asthma was dx'd while you were unemployed and did not have

coverage then the new employer can also not cover it for a certain

period of time.

Well I am not sure if that is the same thing with a school insurance. See, I

was covered under my father. But becasue I turned 23, that ended. Now I am

covered by my school. I will have to talk to them about it.
