Guest guest
Aloha , Carol, and Nikeya, Nice to meet you!!! Here are a couple things you should know befor making lye soap. I make old fashioned lye soap almost every day so if you need any help just ask. #1. Make sure you wear rubber gloves, plastic eye goggles and hold your breath or stand upwind when mixing the lye with your water. The fumes can burn your eyes, nose and lungs. #2. The glass holding the mixture of lye and water will become very hot, do not hold it with bare hands, instead place it on a safe surface outside your house and stir with a wooden spoon.(never mix lye inside your house or a closed in area) #3.Also always have a wet towel handy incase of acidental spilling on skin, wipe of with towel where it burns and head for the shower. Guest guest
It is not very difficult, but the only thing I am never be sure of is , am I in the trace point?, is it OK? well if you reach the point, stop inmediatly, or you must to rebatch, that's not nice, and add your E0's or fragances, and preservatives or antioxidants (never ever forget the last one), I use Vit E. and use a wood spoon. To the mold and cover it with plastic paper, (that for wrap the meals), and insulated them for slow down their temp. slowly, those were my main problems. If something goes wrong, well, I always have the chance to do it HP, or liquid soap, or detergent or dishwasher, never trow away my nice oils, or my work..... LUCK Ruth Carol Chandler <smiley@...> escribió: Hi , I am also in your perdicament, I have made melt & pour soap, lots of bath salts and I am going to make my 1st batch of lye soap within 2 weeks when I recieve all the rest of my products to make it, I'm a little nervous as I have no one around that has ever made soap, and you guys are so far away, but hopefully I can lend your ear from time to time to get me on the right track, again good luck. Guest guest
Am I understanding this right, if your soap does not turn out you can turn it into something else? Interesting how can I find out just what it can be turned into? Carol Re: Not sure if I introduced myself > > Hello Everyone, > My name is . I'm 31 years old. Guest guest
Hello Carol, Either the soap soponified or it did not. If you suspect that your lye did not mix well or you see crystals forming inside or on the top of your soap. Dump it. Unmixed lye or a chemical process that has to much lye it in can cause serious skin burns if the soap is used. If on the other hand your soap soponified and has too much water and is runny or to much oil and is sticky. Lye soap can be rebatched easy to make perfect bars from messed up batches. I am an expert at messing glycerin soap from scratch. In the last month I have ended up with three pots of GOO... Just add water to sliced soap peices let it sit for a day or two mix with blender or hand blender till smooth use for cleaning everything from laundry, your dishes to your bathroom you will be surprised how well it cleans thinned down to a dish soap like liquid. For the thick liquid type for every bar you set soak add 1 1/2 cups water. Also can be softened just enough to be a jello type and cut into small chunks and used for other items such as foot scrubs or bath bubbles (add cocobutter or a lotion to bath soaks from glycerin cause it cleans really well). I myself have three very clean pet rats, two fluffy clean kittens and a Spick and Span Sparkle Puppy. I always test my pet shampoos on myself first to make sure the oils are not too stong as to bother my animals or give them itchy skin. Mahalo Leia > > > > Hello Everyone, > > My name is . Guest guest
Well, I make tons of castille soap. as I used to make shampoos, creams, cleansers, and if I have scratchs, I just add water, 1 cup of scratchs, 2 liters pure water, 1/3 cup borax, add vodka if there is for dishes, or at the time of wash my clothes, I add some papaine (enzyme out of that fruit, sell them in drugstores),and vinegar in the final step of washing, or gliceryn for liquid soap, many things, or rebatch and do some new soap.....Ruth Carol Chandler <smiley@...> escribió: Am I understanding this right, if your soap does not turn out you can turn it into something else?
