Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has had success with any of

the above problems. I've posted to Sigal and about this

in February.

, I was wondering if the shockwave therapy has helped

you any. I'm about at my wits end. Walking is not even

comfortable. I'm going to a rheumatologist next week just to

make sure nothing else is going on with me. My os feels that this

has just been going on too long. (Since June 2001)

I have this coming week off, and I'm going to call around to

different pt's. and see what they do to treat patellar tendonitis. My

fat pads are very inflamed, too. I stretch every day and try to get to

the pool 3-4 days a week. For the first time in months I have

been able to stretch my quad (heel to pocket). I'm hoping that

this will affect something in a positive way.

Sigal, are you still getting ultrasound treatments? My pt acted

like you could only get maybe 10 treatments and then you had to

stop. Is he telling me bull or what? He ended my pt after 4-5

weeks saying that he didn't know what to do for me. He's tried

everything. Keep up with the home program. The insurance

doesn't want to pay if we aren't seeing any positive results.

The itb is tight also. I've been trying 3 different stretches for it. I

feel discomfort on the side of my leg right across from the knee.

Any suggestions for that?

Thanks for any helpful advice.

hi karen,

1. yes, i'm still getting ultrasound & TENS treatments. i began pt 6

months ago (privately), and for the first 4 months met him twice a

week (now i'm down to once). during all this period i recieved either

ultrasound or tens machine or both. so i haven't heard about your

pt's theory that you mustn't ultrasound for over 10 sessions, & i'll

be happy to know on what basis he says that.

i can also tell you that these prolonges treatments have only done me

good.

2. a pt that tells you he cannot do anything in your case is not

someone i would trust. before my current pt i went to another one

(from my insurance) who told me that she didin't think she can do a

lot in my case, and maybe i should consider a tibial osteotomy.

i left her & found my pt, who is excellent, and i think that even my

big tilt reduced a bit.

3. insurance, yes. also had a lot of problems with them about the pt

issue. eventually i went to pt, and i pay him privately. it's really

expensive, but if you can afford it- i think it is worth it: you r

not restricted to time limits, & you can choose who will treat you.

4. itb- big problem. i don;t think that stretches are as effective as

a pt who stivcks his fingers into your itb, and massages it. it

really helps. my itb now is hardly tight.

5. fat pad. i used to have iflamed fat pads in both knees, now its

only in my left knee (the one with the tilt) but i feel the

inflamation slowly fading. i think that the best way to get over this

and the tendonitis is as i posted in my long previous posts (cannot

remember the post's number now..)it worked for me. i hardly have any

tendonitis left, and i had a very severe & stubborn attack.

fat pad, though, is a bigger problem, i think.

6. i know its a very confusing and difficult situation, so the best

way that works for me is listen to my body. my knees tell me what is

good for them and what is bad (walking, for instance, is excellent

for me). i tend to be very conservative when it comes to knees, so i

wouldn't recommend any intrusive treatment.

it is very possible that you just recieved a bad treatment so far, so

your knees haven't gotten better. consult more professionals

(especially pt's), try different things and then reach conclusions.

when it comes to knees a lot of things are trearable - you just have

to find the right trreatment.

also, i think that if something doesn't help you for 2 months even a

little bit, then maybe it's not good for you.
