How do I know if I killed my water grain?? They don't seem to be growing. I

might have given away too many. I have two tablespoons and I have tried 1/3 cup

sugar, 1tbsp radidura, 1/8 tsp baking soda, dried cherries. I have also tried

just with sugar. I can't seem to make them grow. Not sure if they are dead.

Thanks Rhonda

If they are making water kefir they are not dead.

To get growth and keep a good size on them, I have found it is very important to

give them good quality air. I use a cloth lid with rubber band. Even a paper

towel blocks off too much air. As soon as I switched to a cloth lid they started

growing better. So I took the next step. I didn't give them any more fruit and

such, just 1/3 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon rapidura per one quart water. They

have been living on only sugar and water for several weeks now. These are the

biggest water grains I've ever grown. They are doubling every time. All the

growth happens the second day. I am not getting much fizz, but I don't care

about that. Air was the missing ingredient in times past when they weren't

growing that well. I hope others here exchange their lids for a cloth lid and

give the report.

Thanks,

Marilyn
