Guest guest
Deet isn`t recommended for children at all and if I remember correctly it is definetly not recommended for people with respiratory or immunity problems. I will try and find the information I received for it and post it. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Guest guest
Okay, here's what I got from my research on DEET. I read that you want to use DEET in a 10% concentration in children (30% for adults) and that the seizure connection was pretty tenuous and not likely to cause a problem. The string of seizures that got the publicity were in New York and in healthy adult males with no previous seizure history. Also, they said that when you consider the millions who use DEET, of course there will be somebody having seizures while using it, but it's not necessarily related. They also said it's pretty tame as far as chemicals go. Before you yell at me, I'm just relating what I read, I'm not endorsing full liberal use of DEET! That said, I'll definitely still use it, there has been another human case of west nile encephalitis here in the Chicago area. But I still think only a little dab'll do ya (do NOT put it on under clothing, only exposed skin) and wash it off as soon as you come inside. Long sleeves and pants are good too, then you can spray on the clothes instead of skin. (mom to , age 3-1/2. Currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs)
Guest guest
, Thank you for your excellent report. I have been meaning to do it, but haven't had the chance this week. It's good to know! Sandi
Guest guest
DEET containing insect repellents are recommended by the WHO and most organisations as the only repellent to use against mosquitoes. I am trying this tonight after a long soak and it seems to be keeping them off me a little. Not completely but fewer bites. That said I did wash down all walls and floor with bleach/borax/water beforehand so it may just be fewer in the environment as a reult. Was curious on others views on DEET vs Mite. Al. Guest guest
Hi Al Deet works for about 1 week untill I am so naseaus (sp?) I have to stop . I was using skinsations or skintastic ( or something like that) It made me ill in 5 days. I prefer 10% sulfur creme or 2 tbl borax & 16 oz peroxide & 32 oz water mix , it works way better & less sickning. The bleach water & borax is effextive for sure , then sprinkle some borax around & it keeps the bug way down . God bless you, Bill ahopeful11 wrote: > DEET containing insect repellents are recommended by the WHO and most organisations as the only repellent to use against mosquitoes. Guest guest
Hi Al and everyone. I am about to head to the store to buy some DEET myself. I am desperate and it seems that DEET does have some impact indeed. Of course, while covered with it from head to toe, I still do get bitten and I still experience the crawling - just not as much. The mitigation of the biting/crawling seems to be significant enough for me to warrant its use... so off to the store I go to purchase DEEP WOODS OFF or if I can find it, 100% DEET. Al, I wish you, and everyone here in this forum, great fortitude and success in your personal wars against these nasty creatures. I never would have dreamed I would spend days- never mind a year now- fighting invisible blood-sucking parasites, be accused of being crazy and lose all of my personal posessions because of them. Ouch! God bless you all. S.Ross > > DEET containing insect repellents are recommended by the WHO and most organisations as the only repellent to use against mosquitoes. Guest guest
S.Ross, Indeed, I think many of us feel the same! Be careful with DEET - it is a strong chemical. Especially if you are buying 100% which will probably burn you. Istrongly recommend applying to an area of skin and *waiting* a good 5 to 10 minutes to check for allergies and skin response. It causes burning sensation for a few minutes with me, but I use a little less, and a plain moisturiser to get it to spread all over. (also DEET can melt things like varnish - don;t sit on any polythene or varnish till it dries!) Good luck and let us know how it goes, Al. > > > > DEET containing insect repellents are recommended by the WHO and most > organisations as the only repellent to use against mosquitoes.
