Guest guest
Tifanie, Often plain water can be the most difficult to keep down at least at the beginning. You can add it in later when things settle down. In my opinion, this is a time to lower your standards and use anything that will work- juice, pop, popsicles, whatever. Note: these things can be diluted with water. With a small child, this has to be something that appeals to them. If they are already dehydrated, and it doesn't take much to get that way, they will be thirsty and that will help a little bit. Small sips are better than big gulps, but they have to be frequent. You will probably have to offer a drink every 5 minutes or so all day long. If they like to drink out of a straw, that may provide some incentive. You can mix up your own electrolyte solution or just ask a neighbor to bring you some Pedialyte. When the crisis is over, you can plan how to better handle it next time. As far as your baby, you are going to nurse, nurse, nurse. Start now. Kathy R.N.
Guest guest
How long has she been vomiting? Does she have runs too? If it is just the vomiting, watch her. If it gets to be more than 24 hours of keeping noting down then I would start to get more concerned. If she has both, then there is more concern. The runs will dehydrate her much faster than vomiting will. Do keep trying to get some water down her. Also try jello water. I know this is not very NT but it seems to work. Just make jello but not chill it. Let her sip on it, only a teaspoon or so every 10 minutes or so. You can also try some flatten pop. I know there are recipes for making homemade pedialyte and I would also try that. I think it is basically water with some salt in it. I make a tea for my family that has red clover flowers, peppermint leaves, fennel seeds and chamomile. This works great. I use two teaspoons of the mix with 1 cup boiling water. Seep for 10 to 15 minutes and strain. Add honey to taste. Works every time. Just sip one teaspoon at a time every few minutes. How do I keep her hydrated during the flu if she vomits up water. I am skeptical about using " Pedialyte " and wonder if any of you have any suggestions. And what can I do for my 5 mo. old if he gets it? My husband has the biggest week of all this week with work and can't stay home to help so I'm counting on any suggestions other moms and dads have out there. Thank you SO MUCH! Guest guest
Hi Tifanie. I like to use Recharge in place of Pedialyte or even Gatorade. It's a Gatorade type of drink but it's all natural. You can get it at a co-op. I'm not sure where you live but I'm in Prior Lake and have some on hand. Good luck!
Guest guest
Hi Tifanie, I have a significant childhood memory of this specific thing. I was sick and very young. My Mom had this ice cream pail of salt water that I was supposed to drink. It tasted awful. She said the doctor said I could only drink that water and couldn't have anything else. As a result, I refused to drink anything. This was all I remember - and despite this everything turned out fine because I am quite a bit older now. . I think giving a child something they like especially when they are ill or having trouble with drinking will allow your child to drink more than if they are forced to drink something they don't like. Good luck with your week. Marie. In a message dated 1/17/2006 2:53:01 A.M. Guest guest
Tifanie , I don't know if this is still going on but I have a recipe of a pedalite type drink you can use half fruit juice. If you can't get anything but that in go for it. But pedialyte has a ton of sugar in it too. andrea --- marieforce@... wrote: > > Hi Tifanie, > I have a significant childhood memory of this > specific thing. I was > sick and very young. Guest guest
I'm glad your dd is all better. I meant to post this earlier, but just ran out of time. My mom used to give us flat 7-up when we were sick. I think this probably started out as ginger-ale, back in the days when ginger-ale had real ginger in it (Ginger is good for upset stomachs). When my dd was really sick, throwing up and not drinking, I was also worried about her dehydrating so I gave her something we called Bubble Juice. It was apple juice, some clear pop, and watered down with plain water. It was a real treat for her and she readily drank it. Since it was really watered down, I didn't feel too guilty about the sugar, especially since it was the only thing she'd drink. I'd probably try to figure out how to get some ginger in it nowdays. Lynn > > Luckily she was only sick until about noon that day and has been her spunky, cheerful self since. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. I did end up using Pedialyte since I wasn't able to get out of the house, but I plan to be more prepared next time and pick up something from Lakewinds the next time I'm there. > > Thanks again to all those who replied to my " Sick Child " message. > Tifanie
Guest guest
Hi guys, I have become worried for my son. Ok here it goes. No, he is not vaccinated...we do not do antibotics .tylenol, anything. We have started using homeopathic care and as of right now he is under someones care. Yes, i plan on calling her soon. I am just trying to save us the consultation fee. The other day i brought my 2 year old child home from the gym's nursery. He ate a big lunch and then went down for nap. Half way through i noticed he was crying in his room. He never went back (if he actually went in the first place or not)to sleep. I could tell a fever was coming. By that evening he was shaking. He was drinking water ..and i was making sure of it I gave him some oscill(that homeopathic flu stuff...i am awaiting my homeopathic first aid kit now). In the morning he still seemed tired but would play. He didn't want breakfast or lunch. He only ate a few bites at dinner. He took a 4 hr nap. Today was more of the same..no desire for a lot of food. However, he has been constipated for 2 days and he finally had a bowel movement. At nap time today ,i noticed some very LIGHT pinkish urine. He never had it till today (day 3). So, i don't think it began as a urinary infection. And he doesn't seem to hurt or cry when he urinates. I am just worried...i saw him drink out of dog's bowl the other day...could it salmonella? If so..wouldn't he have severe diarrhea (not constipation)? Would homeopathy kill bacteria like salmonella (or help the body to overcome it?) Could it be 2 year molars?? Does it last this long? Should i go to the doctor? And if he says it is bacterial should i accept antibiotics?? I am scared...sorry for the long email. If anyone has any helpful advice. thank you. jen c
Guest guest
Hi Jen You need to call the homeopath. All could relate to the remedy he is on. Always share things like this with the homeopath - it is vital. Sheri At 01:26 PM 4/27/2006 -0400, you wrote: >Hi guys, > >I have become worried for my son. Ok here it goes.
