Guest guest
The two realities of life can be truely difficult to live with. You did great Miss Sheri B! Hugs, Anita " Sheri B. " <tallchick1966@...> wrote: Hi all, Just wanted to share with you my first fairly hardcore encounter with not vaxing and it was about me, not my kids! Went for my annual pap smear appointment today as I have not yet given up on that ritual. The nurse is taking my weight and blood pressure, etc. and asks me if I'm up to date on my tetanus shot. I should have just said YES and I would have avoided a whole big deal, but stupid me said, " I'm not sure but I wouldn't get it anyway because we don't do vaccinations any more. " She looked at me as if I had told her that I was selling my children into slavery. Of course, why not, was the first question out of her mouth. I simply replied for religious reasons. When she asked which religion believed that and I told her it it wasn't about my particular religion but that I had reached this decision through months of prayer and talking with my pastor (all is true) and a great deal of research. So her next question is, of course, about my kids. I probably should have just shut up then and there but I feel so right about our decision that I shouldn't have to hide it. Then she asked what I would do if they got cut or seriously injured and weren't up to date on their tetanus shots. I just replied that it's very hard to get tetanus and that I don't worry about it and that I worry more about them getting into a car everyday than I do about getting most of the diseases for which there is a shot. I didn't go into homeopathy because I thought her head would explode. LOL When she took me to the room I could tell that she thought I was an absolute freak and, frankly, I didn't care. I've decided to switch docs anyway because this guy, as nice as he is, just can't see outside the box. Sigh. Then I went to the health food store and bought a few remedies I needed and felt so much more at home. Talked about raw milk with someone and how to grow sprouts. Much better. : ) Sheri B. --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Last fall I was very fortunate to find a group of certified nurse midwives in an independent practice. They did GYN care, too. I was thrilled! I went for my appointment, had a pap and breast exam done. The CNM was a homeopathy user, too! I was on Cloud 9 having found this group. They were about an hour away, but that was fine with me! 2 weeks ago I got a letter stating they were being forced to close due to the current insurance/medical care situation. They used to do home births, then they weren't allowed to do that anymore, so they opened up a birthing center. That was forced to close, too. So, now their entire business is being shut down. I'm sooo sad about that! Not just for me getting my GYN care there, but because of all those women in the area who are being cheated out of homebirths. Now I'm back to square one. The CNM told me that my uterus was slightly enlarged and that we would " keep an eye on it. " NOW who's going to do that? If I had gone to an MD, I'm sure I would have been sent to have all kinds of tests to determine the cause. Guest guest
Not trying to diagnosis here at all, but one possibility for the enlargement could be fibroids-- Re: My encounter with the medical world today - groan > > > I got the third degree about me too at a pap exam. > L. > > > >
Guest guest
Yes, that's what she and I thought. I did let my homeopath know about it to include in my case. Thanks Sandy. Guest guest
Oh, I forgot to mention that when I asked him his thoughts on breast thermography instead of mammogram he replied that " the studies indicate " that only 1 in 100,000 mammograms (or was it women?) would result in an additional case of breast cancer. My smart mouth nearly said, " so what if I come in at Mrs. 100,000? " He said that breast thermography does not identify cancers of the breast well enough at this point. We postponed the mammogram.... Sheri B. Guest guest
So they gave you a manual breast exam with no mention of mammography? Guest guest
I think she did mention it, saying they " have " to bring it up when I told her I don't do mammograms. She was fine with that. She DID encourage monthly SBE. Kay Re: My encounter with the medical world today - groan So they gave you a manual breast exam with no mention of mammography? Guest guest
I think encouragement of SBE is the best advice a doctor can give any woman; the earlier the better. Unless there is reason for concern, they should be fine with a woman choosing not to squash and radiate her breasts no matter what age that woman is. I hope you can find someone your comfortable with to take their place. Guest guest
Thanks Anita. I hope I can find someone, too. The last MD gynecologist I went to kept pushing mammogram prescriptions on me. I just pitched them in the garbage when I got home. When I told her I was learning about homeopathy (this was about 3 years ago), she said, " Oh, are you taking echinacea? " Yikes! I realized then I needed to go elsewhere for my GYN care!! LOL Unfortunately the laws seem to be pushing most " alternative " OB/GYN practitioners out of business right and left.
