Guest guest
Ladies, I had the most wonderful meal today. First, the heat wave has broken - it was probably just barely 80 degrees out as I left for lunch, with a very slight breeze. I don't think a lot of us had realized how oppressive and depressing the triple-digit weather had been until it broke. I rode the train (light rail) for 5 minutes to one of my favorite restaurants, and ordered a BLT. It included a cup of vegetable beef soup. And a large glass of iced tea with free refills. I had preloaded my entire day's meals into my WW Palm program. But midmorning, I decided I really wanted a BLT instead of a chef salad. I don't eat BLTs very often and I can go months without eating bacon. I made the changes in my "e-tracker" while they prepared the sandwich. The tea with lemon was refreshing. The bread was toasted, so there was a lot of crunching satisfaction and a feeling that you had a hearty meal. It was loaded with thick slices of beefsteak tomatoes and the bacon was done just right. There were carrots and cucumber served on the side. I walked out of there satisfied, full, but not stuffed. It felt like what a meal should feel like. It served the technical function of fueling my body, was enjoyable to the senses with vibrant colors and aromas, but did not "fix" anything emotional. It was just a good, healthy meal. There must be some sort of balance between "eat to live" (my husband) and "live to eat" (me). This meal felt like that. If I eat as I have recorded in my tracker for today, I will be 1.5 points over (approx. 150 calories). However, I was quite low on points yesterday, so I'm not surprised I'm a little hungrier today. I am surprised that I have the self-awareness to realize that - I was too tired to do much of anything yesterday and that must be one of the reasons why (the heat didn't help). I have also, hopefully, resolved a foot pain issue, so if the weather holds and I'm sure it will, I will walk all the way from train platform to home, about 0.6 mile. When I did that Sunday in 100-degree heat, I was beet red in the face, even after 10 minutes of recovery. Today, it should be pleasantly invigorating. Dinner is already prepared and needs only to be reheated. Salad is prepared. It's a very good day. Eileen in OR
