I've long struggled with body image issues, but I am thinking of joining a gym. My daughter is wonderful, but she wants to be actually on my body about 20 hours a day - she's sleeping in my lap right now. I have been walking with her every day, but it's about to get hot and I know I won't go walking when it's hot. I just won't. Anyway, I go to the gym to check it out tomorrow. I'm a little worried because Violet is in separation anxiety mode right now, so I don't know how this is going to work. And I've never left her anywhere without me for any length of time. We don't have any family here, aside from my husband's stepsister, so it's pretty much just us and the baby. > > So V will go to " Kid Kare " tomorrow while I tour the gym. Eek. She's not going to like it. But if it works out and we can afford to join then I think I will be happy to have 1-2 hours to focus on myself for 5 days per week. Right now I'm overloaded with baby and sleep deprived. She's a wonderful baby and I'm so glad she's so energetic, but she wears me out. I'm putting myself on project status, as Dr. Phil would say, and hoping that having some time to myself at the gym will be an incentive to go and will help me get over my gym dread. So I'll check out the gym tomorrow and go from there. <Puts on Drill Sgt cap> No, she's probably not going to like it. But, ya know what? As Dr. Phil says - TOUGH! Not to sound harsh, but isn't that what he'd say about thinks we'd 'like' to do vs. things we NEED to do? She's going to have to get used to it sooner or later - and better sooner. Don't you go all soft-momma on us and let her pull your heartstrings into something that's going to end up bad for the both of you! <Removes cap> Easier said than done, I know > As for eating, like I said, I'm going with the Dr. Phil method. Guest guest
> My name is Maya, I'm 36 years old, and I live in Knoxville, TN. I'm married to Ross and we have a 7-month-old daughter named Violet. Right now I'm blessed to be working at home doing editing/proofing for the company I worked for in Atlanta, where we're from originally. Last year we lived in West Palm Beach and we were still in the hospital after having Violet when hurricane Wilma hit. So that was fun. :-P Hi Maya! What a mess--I'll bet your stress level was off the charts with a newborn and a hurricane coming through. > I weigh 250.5 pounds, as of this morning. My " plan " is to go the Dr. Phil way. We don't have any family here, aside from my husband's stepsister, so it's pretty much just us and the baby. My boys are (just turned) 5 and 2.5 years old. My first was exactly like that--he was *on* me 22 hours out of the day. I actually slept with him on my chest in a recliner at night because he wouldn't sleep otherwise. Did that until he was almost 6 months old and my back simply couldn't take anymore! Anyway, I was more of the attachment parenting school of thought, but down the road I believe it made things more difficult for both of us. My second one I put into other people's care more frequently (mostly family, as I'm a SAHM), and I believe he is so much better for it. All my friends who have really little ones (under a year) have put their kids in the YMCA's kidcare and those kids do GREAT! I wouldn't give up if it doesn't work the first time...it takes a few times before they 'remember' that you're going to come back. > So V will go to " Kid Kare " tomorrow while I tour the gym. Eek. What I mean is, WW encourages you to eat healthy and follow certain guidelines, but Dr Phil says, " Have one protein and blah blah blah " for lunch. So he spells it out and tells you precisely what to do. It's very healthy, so good for you for choosing that one! Anyway, good luck on your journey--I look forward to hearing how the gym visit goes tomorrow -Bonnie
Guest guest
Going all soft-momma -- that made me laugh! I do it all the time. But you're right, I'm going to try to buck up tomorrow. I do think it'll be better for her in the long run. The Dr. Phil plan is basically following all the 'rules' in his book - The Ultimate Weight Solution. Of course you eat properly and exercise - but you also change the way you think of yourself, getting rid of negative tapes that play in your head (this is too hard, this will never work, etc.) and set yourself up for success (no chips in the house, etc.). I think it's very doable, as far as diets go. It's a lifestyle. - Maya SulaBlue <sulablue2001@...> wrote: >> Hi all.> > I joined this group a while back, then moved from Florida to Tennessee and haven't kept up with it. Guest guest
You're so right - my stress level was Way Off The Chart. She screamed for the first two weeks of her life, solid, I believe. Probably because I was so stressed - a vicious cycle. I too am into the attachment parenting style (not that she gives me much choice), but I know that if we can get over this initial hurdle, she will like going to play and I will get a much needed break. Thanks for your email! - Maya brgk44 <brgk44@...> wrote: > My name is Maya, I'm 36 years old, and I live in Knoxville, TN.I'm married to Ross and we have a 7-month-old daughter named Violet.Right now I'm blessed to be working at home doing editing/proofing forthe company I worked for in Atlanta, where we're from originally. Guest guest
I read the whole book when it came out. I read it and I said, yes, this will definitely work for me, I'm just not interested in doing that right now. So I put it on the shelf. I like the ideas that willpower doesn't work and that you have to structure your environment for success. I don't have the food guide. I figure I'll go check it out at and Noble and then buy it used on Amazon. - Maya <bostonsweety27@...> wrote: I have the book and the food guide for the UWS altho I havent finished reading it haven't looked at it in a while. Guest guest
He's got a book - The Ultimate Weight Solution. In it, he discusses 7 keys to weight loss. Of course he talks about food and exercise, but there's also things like setting up a no-fail environment, "right thinking," and making sure you have people around you who support you. - MayaAngel <angel@...> wrote: What is the Dr. Phil method?Good luck!~Angel301/250/175On Wed, 7 Jun 2006, Losing 4 Baby V wrote:> Hi all.>> I joined this group a while back, then moved from Florida to Tennessee and haven't kept up with it.
