Guest guest
>I have a question. Does anyone else have this problem? I can walk longer then I can stand still. I don't feel like I can stand still for all that long, but when it comes to walking I can walk for about an hour. Yesterday I had to wait 45 minutes on line at the post office. The entire time I was constantly shifting or stepping side to side, or just genreally getting fidgetty. My poor feet and joints just can't take the constant pressure, it *must* be relieved. At least when walking your weight is constantly shifting from one part of the anatomy to another, joints aren't held stiff but are moving, doing what they were made to do. Standing still is un-natural. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
I know exactly how you feel! I used to have to do the same thing. But, the problem was, we had no where to sit to fold laundry. My laundry room has one bench, and that's it. The bench sits three tightly, but usually no more then two will ever sit there.....who wants smashed between two strangers? And this is a laundry room that is for 550 apartments, not people, apartments! There is two folding tables, but of course no chairs around them. So what I used to do is bring up the laundry and sit in my bed and fold them. However, even that was too tiring often, and I would only get 4 or 5 pieces done at a time. Now I can do half the bag (two large washers full). Before breaking! And stand while doing them! Same with dishes! Used to could only do around 4, then would have to go sit down. And come back later. Now I do them all 3 times a day (after each meal!). These things that have nothing to do with the number on the scale directly is what keeps me in line. I never want to go back to not being able to do the simple every day chores that healthy people never take a second thought about! in NY >From: <memyselves@...> >Date: Tue May 02 11:39:36 CDT 2006 >100-plus <100-plus > >Subject: Walked again today! Oh yes, while I was at the laundry mat, I did something else I hadn't done in a long time. I stood up to fold my laundry. I didn't have problems at all. Guest guest
> Well, my hubby and I went walking again today. Two days in a row. Hip Hip Horay!!! Walked around the track again 2 times which comes out to 1.6 miles. Fantastic, ! You ought to be really proud of yourself > I have a question. Does anyone else have this problem? I can walk longer then I can stand still. I don't feel like I can stand still for all that long, but when it comes to walking I can walk for about an hour. So I was wondering if anyone else had that problem and wondering why it is harder to stand still then it is to walk. I used to. For some reason, standing for long periods of time seems to be harder on the joints. Don't worry, the more you keep walking, the easier it will be to stand for longer periods of time > Oh, yes another great thing happened yesterday. Well, yesterday was laundry day. No that wasn't the great thing. LOL! The great thing was when I went to put on my close since most of them were dirty I had limited choices. I saw a pair of shorts in my draw that I haven't worn for a long time, because they had been way to tight. Well, I thought I might as well just try them since I don't seem to have anything else to wear. They fit. I couldn't believe it. They fit and they were not tight at all. Oh yes, while I was at the laundry mat, I did something else I hadn't done in a long time. I stood up to fold my laundry. You accomplished a lot today! -Bonnie
Guest guest
Walked again today! Hi there friends, Well, my hubby and I went walking again today. Two days in a row. Hip Hip Horay!!! Walked around the track again 2 times which comes out to 1.6 miles.Thats so great ! And sounds like hubby might be getting into this too:) Have that appointment with Vocational Rehabilitation this afternoon at 2 pm. I'll let you know how that goes.I hope you get what you are looking for from it:) I have a question. Does anyone else have this problem? I can walk longer then I can stand still. I don't feel like I can stand still for all that long, but when it comes to walking I can walk for about an hour. So I was wondering if anyone else had that problem and wondering why it is harder to stand still then it is to walk.Yep all the time. And the funny thing I do too is I can outwalk even the teenage kids if I can go at a slower pace like when we go Christmas Shopping. My kids(well not kids ages 22 and 26) will be begging to go home and drop from being so tired. I would be ready to go for another 2 hours. LOL But you put me on a timed thing where I need to pick up the pace and I wear out quick. All I can suggest for standing is to pace from one leg to another you know sorta like a walk in place every so often. Oh, yes another great thing happened yesterday. Well, yesterday was laundry day. No that wasn't the great thing. LOL! Guest guest
I have that standing still problem too. I asked one of my doctors once and he said weight was one factor and that as I lose I will feel better, but I also have ridiculously high arches and so when I have a foot print taken all you see is the ball of my feet, toes and my heal, nothing in between and that that too is a factor for me. I like you can walk for miles and miles, did a 7 mile hike last weekend, but ask me to stand in one place for more than 30 minutes and my feet are screaming. -heidi On 5/3/06, <sandra.mygroup@...> wrote: Walked again today! Guest guest
I find I can also do stuff better barefooted. I don't know why...maybe its just because I'm comfortable without my shoes. Although I am so tender footed when I'm outside I have to have on shoes of some kind.It is almost like instant relief for me to kick off my shoes. If I am going to be walking on any uneven turf as outside in the yard or whatever though I always wear my normal shoes. If I wear my flip flops or sandals my arches will get to hurting. However in stores shopping or whatever flip flop or sandals serves the purpore. From: Heidi 100-plus Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2006 8:19 AM Subject: Re: Walked again today! I used to have to go in a wheel chair when I went to the mall. Now I can walk the mall with no problem. Guest guest
me too about the wheel chair, even walmart. Any where that had electric scooters, I was there! I feel so much better physically. But, also mentally that I can do these things again. I used to feel so depressed having to be in a scooter, and people staring etc. I just can't think about ever going back. But, at the same time, I have to remember those days, so I don't let myself ever even want to back slide and go back to those days! You can do it! And good for you, in coming sooooo far! Keep it up! >From: <memyselves@...> >Date: Thu May 04 11:56:17 CDT 2006 >100-plus >Subject: Re: Walked again today! > Same with dishes! Used to could only do around 4, then would have to go sit down. Guest guest
, I was so tired the other day when I went to Wal-Mart I thought about sitting in one of those scooters again. I didn't though. I don't ever want to have to sit in one of those again. I pushed myself to walk and am so glad I did. I had a lot of shopping to do, but when I got home (even though my feet really hurt) I was proud of myself for not giving in and riding that scooter. I don’t want to ever have to go back to that. In fact I have a handicapped sign in my car so I can park in the handicapped parking spaces. I haven't used that in a long time now. It feels so good to be able to walk and not have to park in the handicapped parking spots. Save those spots for people like my brother who is paralized from the waist down. I used to have to use those spots, but not any more. I am excited about that. from MO
