Guest guest
* Everyone’s Favorite Vegetable* Many health professionals, including myself and Love, MD, author of “ Love’s Menopause and Hormone Book,” consider chocolate a vegetable. After all, it is made from the cocoa bean, which provides dietary fiber and is full of antioxidants that keep cells healthy. Chocolate contains a significant amount of the mineral magnesium, which assists in blood glucose management, helps stabilize moods, provides quality sleep and is necessary for the health of our bones and heart. Compared with milk or white chocolate, dark chocolate provides the greatest benefit because it contains the most cocoa butter. Read labels carefully to choose chocolates that have “cocoa,” “cocoa mass,” and “cocoa butter” as the leading ingredient and the least amount of sugar and other additives. Also acts as a natural anti-depressant. I have become addicted to Dagoba's organic dark chocolate with chiles and cocoa nibs. I forget the name - starts with an X. Chiles means more antioxidants and more endorphins! -- el (andreafrankel at sbcglobal dot net) " wake now! Discover that YOU are the song that the morning brings... People in Europe wouldn't eat tomatoes for many decades after they were brought over from the Americas, because they assumed (wrongly) that any relative of the deadly nightshade plant would also be deadly. There are indeed some people whose arthritis is bothered by anything in that family. For most people, there is no problem. And tomatoes and peppers are very nutritious. I rely on NAET to test whether I am compatible with a particular food, rather than making assumptions and ruling out whole categories of food, and chiles are no problem for me. It's a YMMV thing. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > -- el (andreafrankel at sbcglobal dot net) " wake now! Guest guest
I use scharffen-berger cocoa powder without any sugar, and sometimes I buy their unsweetened chocolate bars which have a tiny bit of sugar. I melt butter, stir it into the cocoa. If you wanted it sweet but are on a low sugar diet you could add stevia. Every morning I eat my soft boiled organic eggs, decaff green tea, and my chocolate mix. Without chocolate I would not survive. It has lots of catecholamines, precursors to epinephrine and norepinephrine. I feel its protective along with being antidepressant. Someday science will prove us right. > > I personally have been eating more dark chocolate as it they are VERY > > rich > > in Polyphenols and they give me cognitive benefits. > > > > Same here! Guest guest
Hi there, A friend of my sister who is psych consultant for the elderly ( and has had depressive problems herself) recommends chocolate for depression - she should know. Whenever I'm feeling really grotty ME-wise - especially if my cns is playing up more than usual I have some chocolate - brilliant stuff!! Really does work wonders.
