Guest guest
Mjh, Does licorice interfere with sleep?Does one have to take it early in the day or doesn't it matter? Thanks. Nil
Guest guest
Ellen Dr Baschetti in Italy uses this retention possibility of licorice root to help those with orthostatic intolerance. He had CFS and used licorice root simmered in milk to restore his health. Now, on the other hand, for those with high blood pressure, they need to monitor their blood pressure while taking licorice root long term. A couple of bananas a day may well balance that out or just substituting potassium chloride as salt in place of sodium chloride. mjh In a message dated 2/17/06 8:52:45 PM Eastern Standard Time, ellenelle@... writes: > > Nil, > > One more thing. Guest guest
Thanks Ellen and mjh, Ellen, may I ask you your adrenal cortex extract and licorice dosage? Which type of licorice do you use?Powder or pills? best wishes. Nil > Nil, > > I've been using licorice for a few years. I take it in the morning. Guest guest
Nil, I take organic licorice liquid extract from herb pharm (http://www.herb-pharm.com/). I used to take 20 drops in the early morning, late morning, and early-midafternoon. Now I don't seem to need as much (as evidenced by normal blood cortisol levels, which you should check from time to time if you're going to take this) and only take 20 drops in the morning. Start with a low dose, see how it affects you, and go from there. If you don't feel any increased energy, increase the dose or the amount of doses; if you feel hyper and/or anxious or depressed, lower the dose. Taking too much over time will also cause the same symptoms as cortisol overdose, such as water retention, especially in the face. The reason for pulsing the doses is to prevent the kind of acclimation that often happens when taking hormones. I'm now taking something called Adreno-Pan-C from a company called International Nutrition Inc. but I'm not sure that they ship outside the US (and I can't seem to find them on the Internet). Standard Process (http://www.standardprocess.com/index.asp) also has a good adrenal extract formula that's pretty much the same thing. At one time I took quite a few per day, but it's best not to do that long-term. Now I just take the recommended dosage, every other day. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, My problem is that I am already taking full dosage adrenal extract and plan to replace it with licorice. I am trying to plan how I should decrease dosage of my ACE and replace it with Licorice. Or could I take them together at the beginning? That was why I asked you this question as you had said you were on adrenal cortex and licorice. Is Adreno-Pan-C an adrenal extract or adrenal glandular? Could not find the product at web so could not check. Thank you for the links you have given. Guest guest
Nil, Sorry to be fuzzy on terminology. It's a glandular, I guess, since it has actual glandular tissue. As I understand it, licorice augments your own production of cortisol by inhibiting an enzyme that breaks it down. At least that was the theory that I read about when I started using it. So if you're planning to use it as a substitute for what you taking now, probably you should go very slowly.
