Guest guest
I have spent most of the day trying to get a handle on why many many CFIDS patients on Benicar have 3-6 lbs/month weight gain. With some people planning to be on it for perhaps 24 months --- the weight gain is not trivial. For full details( & references) see http://lassesen.com/cfids/supplements/benicar.htm * BENICAR(Sankyo Pharma Spain) is the trade name for Olmesartan combines ****with hydrochlorothiazide****. * OPENVAS (Pfizer) is the trade name for Olmesartan ***without*** hydrochlorothiazide. The hydrochlorothiazide may be the cause of the weight gain. Hydrochlorothiazide is known to increase aldosterone production. Aldosterone is known to cause weight gain. Many CFIDS people are reported to have aldosterone deficiency hence this increase in aldosterone has this abnormal weight gain as a consequence. ------------------------- It appears that OPENVAS with a statin may be a suggestion that you may wish to discuss with your physician for CFIDS. Hope it helps -- especially those who been feeling better and more energetic BUT seeing unacceptable (or intolerable) weight gains.
