Guest guest
Charmayne, Will your son refuse to eat if you tell him no food without taking the enzymes in some liquid? Here are a few things that have been mentioned for mixing (I know you've already tried some of them): juice (he'll be able to taste them in this one for sure) frozen juice concentrate honey (I use this to mix supplements sometimes) maple syrup (sometimes has casein in it) peanutbutter pop Below is something I posted about a masking syrup. You might also try your local pharmacy. A friend sent me the following information on a masking syrup: " Just an FYI....I ordered this compounding-grade supplement mask (in raspberry) from Humco (1-800-662-3435) -- it's great!!! I just open up the capsules and mix w/ 1 tsp. of this syrup and she takes it fine (a pretty big accomplishment since I'm trying to make B-complex palatable!) With S & H, tax, the total came to 12.80 for a 16-oz bottle. (I also verified w/ the owner that it is GFCF/soy/yeast/egg free). " Please post again if you need more advice. Maybe we can brainstorm and come up with something. Does bribery work?! My son has a reward system using colored links that connect to make a chain. When the chain touches the floor, he gets a reward. > I need ideas for giving the enzymes. My son is VERY PICKY and not on > the gfcf. Guest guest
I'm going to give Jolene credit for the masking syrup since she is now a member here. Thanks! > > I need ideas for giving the enzymes. My son is VERY PICKY and not > on > > the gfcf. Guest guest
If it were me, I would say, " No enzyme, no pizza (or anything else). " And let him go hungry until he got hungry enough to coorperative. Otherwise, peanut butter hides a lot of stuff if he will have it on a spoon or peanut butter cracker. The boys usually take capsules over mixing so I haven't had to be so creative. We put it in diet coke or Diet Rite has a new red raspberry with no aspartame, and that is okay. In milk or water doesn't go over well here. I have mixed the enzyme in a couple of tablespoons of applesauce and immediately fed it to them. You are right, they enzymes work FAST, so at least you know what is happening in your stomach! Maybe if you do the pudding thing again, but only use a small amount to mix and then feed him the one or two spoonfuls FAST. The sneaking is a pain. Sorry to hear he is not being so cooperative. Hope this gets you through the day. Let us know how it works. . > I need ideas for giving the enzymes. My son is VERY PICKY and not on > the gfcf. Guest guest
My kids were standing right there when I mixed it in applesauce, but I wasn't having to be sneaky. I thought of chocolate milk, but again the enzymes will act on it pretty fast so he would need to be there and drink it up. How about a tablespoon of chocolate syrup? I don't know if he would need to be there. Since this may become a routine, you might just want to have a " talk " with him and say, " Look, you need to take this. It keeps you from getting sick. You choose how you want to take this. " When my kids complain or forget, I say very frankly " Either take the enzyme OR eat the weird GFCF stuff from the health food store. Your choice. " That usually ends it. Maybe bring home a loaf of GF bread and let him try it. (I better stop here before I get myself in trouble. LOL) If I think of anything else, I let you know. . > The peanut butter is a good idea. Will have to try that. He will eat > peanut butter crackers, but isn't very fond of them. Guest guest
LOL. Three of the main reason I haven't done the gfcf are: his picky eating habits, the food would taste bad, and we live in a very rural area. I would have to purchase the food off of the internet. I don't do the grocery store (my husband is good for something) at all. The selections here are near to impossible. I guess you do what you have to do, but was just fixing to jump on the gfcf train when I ran across some info on the enzymes and decided to give them a try. Chocolate syrup? Could start giving a med cup full before a meal, and get in the habit then slip in the enzymes. Might work. We'll have to try that. I'm probably going to have the best luck with the Kool-Aide. I could be mean and tell him he wasn't going to eat til.... My husband nor my MIL would be able to do that. They are both softies, but very good with him. Thanks for the additional ideas. I appreciate them. Charmayne -- In @y..., kjorn@t... wrote: > My kids were standing right there when I mixed it in applesauce, but > I wasn't having to be sneaky. Guest guest
Charmayne, My son did not complain about taking the enzymes in Kool-Aid, but then he's giddy to be off the diet after a year of it. He begged for that new Kool-Aid that changes colors and has a flavor that doesn't match the color. > > > The peanut butter is a good idea. Will have to try that. Guest guest
Hey Charmayne!! First thing you already know because of my previous email, but I will remind you because it is still very much on my mind, these enzymes can make you feel NASTY. So if your son is hiding them etc, and actually LYING to you when he never did that before, you might want to keep it to only one meal a day for a while, so he can adjust or something. I crashed BAD after only lunch and dinner one day and breakfast the next day, so same as your 1-1/2 days worth. That was ALL I could handle, well, I could not even handle that much, and still 2 weeks later I am feeling the effects. Okay for my #2 son, I mix his enzyme with honey and spread it on a small corner of his pancakes or sandwich or whatever, then he eats that piece first. I am completely at a loss as to this quick reaction everyone here sees when mixing it, but maybe that is because honey is so thick? I don't know, but I don't see much breakdown of the honey at all, even tho I use 2 capsules and even a few minutes later when he starts eating it, I don't see much difference, if any, in the surface of the food. You might want to consider trying a little honey if your son will eat honey. Or maybe they don't work very well with honey and that is why I have to use two capsules? Otherwise I give my son a choice, either I put the whole capsules on the back of his tongue a few minutes before he eats, or he eats it mixed in the first few bites of his food. He generally chooses mixed in the first few bites of food, but he is not really a picky eater and so that is not generally a problem. Well I am glad to see that enzymes might help your son. Good luck!!
Guest guest
Some research I did a year or so ago into my own son's problems suggested that JRA is sometimes linked to the presence of rubella (German measles) virus. Did your son have rubella or the rubella vaccination? Anne ideas? > on cannot have dairy. He got juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at age three (he only ever had cheese and butter anyway and soy milk). When dairy was completely eliminated he went into remission -and treated for leaky gut. When, 6 months later he was re-challenged, same thing happened - three hot joints. I have been giving him dairy since we've been on enzymes and seemed to be going OK, but now he has a hot joint (maybe 2) again. I'm so upset. Do you think it will get better as his gut heals more or is there something else (ie virus causing autoimmune reaction) that I should be looking at? > Thanks a lot > Prue > > >
Guest guest
r u giving him liver? i have been a week without it and am noticing it. am i singing to the sky or something? lamb brains liver ................................................................ ....................................................................... ....................................................................... ....................................................................... ....... u can supplement until the cows come home but you will never get suplements 100th of a percent as good as these foods. joints can be autoimmune which some midday sun would help but you still have to wait until the ozone hill over the bottom half of australia falls a little. another couple of weeks at least. i am not going to spend the next winter in tasmania unless i am dead. the other thing about joints is heavy metals impairement of sulphur. nutra-sense arthro-aid which is glucosamine hydrochloride can help but its not cheap. yeah the whole business is depressing. > on cannot have dairy. When dairy was completely eliminated he went into remission My son tolerates milk with enzymes, but if I give too much [more than just a lesser ingredient in a product] he will get major ear wax. Nothing else, no diarrhea or behaviors, but major ear wax. I have not tried challenging this recently, this was last summer. But you might want to consider chelation or virus, to help with this.
