Hi..everyone !!

Bimal 's lap-surgery has been done with wrap today morning by Dr.Palanivelu at

GEMS hospital in Coimbatore ( South India).

He was taken to the operation theater at

6 am, and at 8-45 am, he was transferred to ICU-will be there till tomorrow

morning.

We will be able to talk to him only tomorrow morning .

Dr.PV said that surgery was very fine and Bimal is also okay...but he did say

that the surgery was " VERY DIFFICULT " due to the previous 3 endoscopic

dilatations.

This was also told to me by 2 other surgeons that, all previous treatments esp.

Dilatations do make surgery " MORE DIFFICULT " ..

Hence, I feel that all new members who are considering dilatations to avoid

surgery, must check on this matter and ask for a couple of opinions..

Immediately after Bimal 's surgery, he had one more very similar case of a 45

year old lady who was recently diagnoised for Achalasia and he did that

surgery, which was easier bcoz this lady had not undergone any other treatment

like dilatations..

I will be meeting Dr.PV today evening to get more details on this and will post

it then..

Thanks for Good wishes of all from this board and I firmly believe that all the

wishes and prayers helped us a lot..

This has come up before. It is common for surgeons to say that. However,

according to some studies, statistically even though the surgery may be

more difficult because of previous treatments, the outcomes seem to be

just as good. This seems to be a problem for the surgeons but not the

patients. Until there is evidence of that it makes a difference in

outcome it may not be worth worrying about.
