I join everyone else in expressing my concerns for Preeti, and pray that the setback is only temporary, will heal and she will be alright. She will be in good hands throughout her stay at the hospital. While perforations are not a good thing, the doctors acted quickly and effectively to correct the situation.

Hello All,I'm Preeti's Husband Deepak wrting to all of you toupdate about her surgery.Today, it was a early start for us, we left at around7.00 am in the morning to reach the hospital at 7.30.After reaching there we had a short chatt with hersurgeon wherby he informed us about the surgery and apossible risks. risks were perforations.she went in at about 8.15 am. And I saw the doctor whoperformed the surgery at around 1 afternoon. Veryobvious question to him "How was it doc". He said itwas a tough and long sugery which lasted for about 3.5hrs. he said that because Preeti is very small andtiny so they had problem in performing the surgery. Hesaid we did what we were planning for but ended up inhaving couple of holes (perforations) and said thatthey had stiched them up. He said that now she mighthave to spend bit of extra time(4 nights) in hospitalbecause they want to see those holes healing beforethey dischange. After hearing this I became very uncomfortable. Infact I realised that my eyes went wet after some time.I wasn't expecting any complications. but then thingsnever work as u wish. anyway I saw Preeti at around 4pm when she came back to senses and they transferedher to post operative ward. she was looking all right. wasn't having any pains asuch. she talked to me for a while. Her Surgeon Mr.gartell visited us again and he reitrated the samewords in fornt of Preeti as well. I did not wanted tolet Preeti know that the docs ended up in leavingcouple of bloody holes. Anyway Mr. Gartell said thathe and his fellow really worked hard for 3.5 hours toget the things done and said that they had done thethings they were looking for. Honestly speaking I'm bit nervous and tensed now. allsort of none sense thougths are coming into my mind tokeep me disturbed. I thought lets share my worrieswith you and got your views on it. Dear Deepak,

I'm sorry she had complications. I'm guessing the perforations are in the mucosal lining of the esophagus. It is easily perforated I guess. Although it is very strong it is easily poked. I think as long as they know about the perforations and watch them they heal reasonably well. But I'm just going off memory.

Deepak,

That sounds it was a tough day for you both, yesterday! Maybe

it's because I've been the support person for my husband and for my

mother who dealt with serious health problems, but sometimes it's

almost harder being the support person (because of all the worry for

your loved one)! I remember when I had a jaw surgery 15 years ago and

my husband was so worried that by the time he first saw me after

surgery, he almost passed out from the flush of emotion. I woke up,

saw him sitting in a chair and asked him if HE was alright!

I'm really hoping Preeti's healing goes well and the surgical

complications are overcome very quickly! I hope she shows more signs

of improvement each day! Take care of yourself, too, and give Preeti

our best wishes!

Oh, Deepak, I am so sorry that Preeti's surgery was complicated. It is stressful enough an experience for both of you without added difficulties. The good news is that they took care of the perforations and that she is mending. I would guess that with the extra days in hospital, Preeti will get more rest and less stress, having nurses and YOU !!! to help her. You sound like a very caring, loving husband and she is going to do well with your help. When I was in hospital, post-surgery, and my son and another friend came and stayed all day and into the night, sitting quietly, but I knew they were there, I have to say I slept better and my mind rested better. Love is a powerful influence for the good and I think it helps with recuperation, too. Wishing you all the best health, for you and for Preeti, Deborah
