Guest guest
Michele, normally about a week for the liguid diet and a few for the soft. But your doctor should have informed you as to what he thinks is best. You can go to www.achalasia.us and look there. There is information about diets on that web site. in Suffolk In a message dated 6/26/2006 4:32:16 PM GMT Standard Time, jams-nv@... writes: Hi AllI had my Heller a week ago. Guest guest
Hi Michele, Dr. Rice kept me on a liquid diet for two days after surgery. He told me to remain on a soft food diet for the first month. After the first month, he called me to see how I was feeling and how food was passing. I felt great so he advanced my diet to solids. I still haven't eaten anything on the acidic list (oranges, tomato sauce, spicy food, etc.) because I forgot to ask him if he meant I should start eating solids or I can eat everything. Hope this helps! -Aileen > > Hi All > I had my Heller a week ago. I am still slow moving but the pain was > gone before I left the hospital. Guest guest
Hi Michele, Glad to hear your pain was gone before leaving the hospital-thats great news.My son had the heller and a wrap in Dec and he was on liquids for about a week or so and then very soft things like oatmeal, pudding, mashed potatoes/gravy etc for like 2 months or longer. It took him several months to eat what you would say " normal " .He is finally now eating what he wants and that is everything.lol I hope you will be able to get back eating some good stuff soon!I know what you mean about the Drs~ We were told let him do as he can tolerate.Geez he was 12,if we left it up to him he would have been trying to eat pizza the day he left.He did try grilled cheese the next day after he came home cause the Dr said if he wanted to try to see how it would go` go ahead.NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!! We just had to go slow and take lil steps after that of course.I just dont think they really know what to tell us.Best of luck and I hope you recover quickly!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Tonia, why wasn't the grilled cheese a good idea? Did he have pain, regurgitation, both? -- in Lancaster, PA > We were told let him do > as he can tolerate.Geez he was 12,if we left it up to him he > would > have been trying to eat pizza the day he left.He did try > grilled > cheese the next day after he came home cause the Dr said if he > wanted > to try to see how it would go` go ahead.NOT A GOOD > IDEA!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Thanks Aileen That helps a lot. I am still on a " Full liquid diet " . Pretty sad when babyfood is looking good. When you were recovering did your esophagus tremble or quiver? Every time I eat I can watch my skin shake. Thanks for you help! Michele > > > > Hi All > > I had my Heller a week ago. Guest guest
Yes,He had major problems with it not going down.It was also really painful he said.He did have to vomit a little to get it to come back up.(sorry about the detail there)With in a few minutes he was having a bad spasm too.Just not a good thing to try and eat after surgery for him.(atleast for him it didnt go well)It has taken many months to get to the point to be able to eat stuff like that. > > Tonia, why wasn't the grilled cheese a good idea? Guest guest
Hello Michele, I am so happy that you seem to be doing well. The Doctor is vague because it's an unknown quantity he/you are dealing with. You have to see how it goes. As a guideline, I would aim for 4-6 weeks on a soft diet. I have found that a little progression happens naturally. The reason for this long time for a soft diet is that your oespohagus and LES have taken a heck of a bashing and need the healing time. Strictly nothing scratchy or crunchy, no alcohol or spices and no carbonation, which puts undue presuure on the newly-renovated equipment. Good Luck and be sensible. It will pay off for you. Guest guest
I couldn't see my E quiver through my skin, but it defitnitely acted differently for a while. I could feel and hear gurgling noises like there was air moving slowly up and out, but it never became a loud burp. Every time I ate something new, my E reacted a little bit, too. -Aileen > > > > > > Hi All > > > I had my Heller a week ago. Guest guest
I still feel quivers and trembles, as well as a drain clearing noise, when I swallow -- almost a year out.
