Guest guest
The botox injection are said to last about 3 to for months. That will very between different people. I had 4 injections and they lasted about 3 months and then I would have to go back in. I would suggest skipping the dilation's and injection if all possible and go and get the surgery. That way there is less chance of scar tissue building up and hindering a successful surgery. I think that all the dilation's and injections I had an effect on my first surgery and I ended up having another surgery about two years after my first surgery. in Suffolk
Guest guest
Any time. There is help and good doctors out there. Just ask as many questions as you can and if you can talk to other people that were the doctors patients then you might be able to gauge better if that doctor is the one you really want. GO with your gut, if it does not feel right then get a second opinion. IF we can help we will do the best we can to do so. in Suffolk
Guest guest
Hey Jude, (I was tempted to type out the lyrics to " your song, " but you've probably heard it more than enough.) My, you are such a strong person. Unfortunately, I'm going through the process of selecting a surgeon right now, too, so I cannot help you there. People on this site have been ever so helpful, though. You'll find the advice and support you need here. I would not recommend botox injections. I had them, and they were temporarily successful. However, now that I'm looking at surgery, every doctor and surgeon I've seen has said that scar tissue (or something) from the botox injections makes the surgery harder. I never would have had the injections if I had known that. -Aileen > > Hello All. > I have belonged to this group for a very long time. I have had A for > over 8 years. Guest guest
Aileen, Please do sing, we need to keep our spirits up. I have been told the same thing about the botox shots, it does seem to be the eaiest but temporary way out. Since I have not had anything as of yet, I was thinking of the shots. How many have you had? How often are they needed? Surgery, I know will be the right choice, but bringing myself to make the decision's of, where and who, are really getting to me. My prayer's are with you. Thank you, for taking the time, to respond to my post. Jude
Guest guest
Thank you , I do value your info. Since I tried to deal with this by myself, all these year's. Fearing the doctor's, more than the disease. I thank you, sincerely. Jude
Guest guest
Nell...it totally scared me away from ever going back to see any doctor for A. The pneumonia, even though I have it 4 times a year, was much more severe, when the doctor, raptured me. I not sure who to word this, but, I now know, I am not alone. Since all the other doctor's I see, think I am crazy, for not treating my A. Time to get over my fear, and work on trusting a doctor, for my surgery. Thank you, for letting me know, I am not alone. Guest guest
-Hi Jude, The ultimate decision is yours, but my surgeon told me it was an option to have botox but he recommended not to use it. They only really want to use it in limited cases where it might be the only option. As many have said here it can cause more scar tissue for surgery later. Here it is not concidered often at all. -- In achalasia , " JUDE " <judesplaying@...> wrote: > > Aileen, > Please do sing, we need to keep our spirits up. If you can't get surgery covered dilation is an alternative. If it were me and I could not have the surgery I would go with the dilation. It has some possible problems, but all the treatments, even surgery, have problems. Skip the botox if you can. To wrap or not to warp, and what kind of wrap, is the question for your surgeon. I suggest you let the surgeon have his way on that issue or find another surgeon. notan
Guest guest
OK, I lost my internet connection, so I'm rewriting this...sorry if it sent the first time. When first diagnosed, my specialist recommended botox shots. She told me that she had no way of knowing how long they would last on me because everyone's body reacts differently. The first shot helped for about a year. The second worked for only about six months. At that point, I was sent to Dr. Sidney Cohen in Philly to begin balloon dilations. Of course, it's your choice, but I would not do the shots if given the opportunity to be treated over again. I'm now on the road to surgery this summer.
