The first time I heard this term pronounced correctly was my surgeon Dr. Fuller

at Cedars-

Sinai -- I am now sure his correct pronunication must indicate his expertise

with this

disorder, don't you think?

Dear ,

Thank you for your long explanation of how to pronounce achalasia. I think I have got it now. I am worried about your phrase "In NY we pronounce it as 'pain in the ahrse' " Now I don't think you are actually supposed to have any pain there with this disorder and I think you should have this seen to.

Peggy,

I have had " A " for 27 years (I think I need some sort of medal..LOL)

and still TO THIS DAY medical people correct me no matter how I say

it. I give up!!! sheeesh. I just say it the way I want. I told a

young student nurse who corrected me the other day that since I have

had " A " for 27 years I have more experience saying it then her so I

was the one who should be correcting her...LOL. She told me in slow

syllabels that it was A CALL LAZY UH! Her emphasis on the UH! I

could not help laughing at her. She said I was mean. I said nope

after 27 years I am tired of being corrected by people who have not

been alive as long as I have been dealing with all this...LOL In

the end I think she got my point.

So Peggy, how did he pronoune it?

Also not to take up too many pages.... And JC YOU TELL HER!!!.... but how do you correctly pronounce dialation/dilatation and how do you spell it. I've heard long i, short i, and the extra syllable. I once asked Dr. Ippoliti, he has the extra syllable. But some other doctor at Cedars said it differently. ... would you resolve this one?

Sandy in So Cal.... hmmmm ... done for now. And how dare a nurse tell a patient they are mean? What's that about?> > > >> > > > > > > Just as a matter of interest, does anyone know if there is a > correct way> > > to pronounce Achalasia? Is the first syllable Ak or Ache? Well, Calling me mean, She was a young kid who thought she knew it

all. After she meets a few like me who report her statements to the

doc's and her boss, she will find out patients are not all as

ignorant as she thinks. Education!! don't you get it? They think

we are there for us to educate. It really works the other way

around....LOL
