Guest guest
Where did he have the surgery done, and by whom?It is not normal to still be losing weight a month after a heller. Most people are back to school/work within a week or two, and even if they're not on a full diet yet, they're usually at least able to get down liquids. If he had a fundoplication, it's entirely possible that it was done too tight. Debbi in Michigan seriuos complications after heller myotomy Some one please give me some info or advice that has had this done.My son is 12 just had a heller myotomy done 3 1/2 weeks ago.He has lost 18 pounds(down to 83 now) and still cant eat soft foods or really drink much with out it still getting stuck or taking forever to go down.Drs say its normal cause of swelling. Is this true? I just dont know how much more this kid can take.Hes getting depressed, is being home bound for school(teacher comes here) cause hes lost so much weight and is too weak.Could something be wrong inside? Too tight> I just dont know.PLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT.Thank god I found this site- I thought we were the only ones out here dealing with this. Please any help would be great! Guest guest
I would be very concerned. The time after a myotomy is highly positive. Even if swollen, we can tell the wate is going down. I'd check the list of doctors here, tell us where you are and go to a new doctor. It isn't normal. I would guess if your son had a wrap it is too tight or the cut wasn't long enough. Find better doctors. Your son's condition is rare. Any doctor here should return a phone call in hours, although with the weekend it may not be until Monday. Guest guest
I would also be concerned about this but we have all had a variety of different issues following our surgeries. Maybe it is possible he has some swelling still. I am not sure if you can have your dr. paged or something. I know my dr was always available to me for questions and concerns. This is a very depressing disease. I am sure he is weak and tired, malnourished....I understand all of this. Please contact someone about your son. He can be helped. Keep us informed. I am thinking of you. Guest guest
I would contact his doctor right away. There are quite a few of us who have recently had Heller Myotomy, and most have seen drastic improvement. We are glad you found this site, and hope you will keep us posted on his progress. Where are you located? Who are his doctors? I know that in children the esophagus can be smaller. I don't know if at 12 that would matter much or not. I know some of the other children in this group have had a hard time. In any case you may want to get a second opinion. notan
