That is great to hear that he is doing better. Stress does have an effect on how our bodies cope with things. I know for myself that when I am over stresses I have more problems eating. As for letting him eat whatever, my surgeon said to take it slow and eat only things that I could tolerate.

I rebounded pretty fast from my last surgery. In fact the docotrs kind of got mad at me cause I was eating stuff they felt I should not have right after surgery. I was eating bread rolls 2 days after surgery. lol

My doctor said don't eat rice, but it was one of the

few things I tolerated well at that time.

My point is that each of our E reacts in different

ways. Just from the last few days discussion you've

seen how we all tolerate food differently.

My opinion is to let him eat what he thinks sounds

good, but both of you pay close attention, even keep

notes, about what he can and can't tolerate. Pretty

soon he 'll have his own personal menu of stuff he can

eat and not eat.

good luck

Such good news Tonia- yeah for you both! is right about

stress, If I'm stressed out, I definately have problems swallowing.

As far as foods go, he should probably still take it slow with really

heavy foods or things that are spicy. You are going to find with time

that there are foods that are just no-no's for him, it's alot of

trial and error. I think the only food that we ALL have trouble with

is raw carrots. Everything else is hit or miss and you're going to

spend a lot of time experimenting with him.

Please make sure he understands now and gets into the habit of ALWAYS

having water or something to drink with his meals.

Take Care,

Happy Swallowing!

As people have been point out, we are all different, so also one day

is different from another. The same food on one day may go down just

fine and on another it is trouble. Stress, thick mucus, hydration and

who knows what, can make one day worse than another. I would let him be

the judge of what he can eat. Achalasia makes us feel like we have lost

some control in out lives. Children love to gain control. Choosing what

will be on todays menu is a moment of control that most children enjoy

when giving the chance. I even know families where each child has a

night where the family's menu for super is theirs if they have earned

it (done well in school or what have you). Anyway, I think it would be

positive to let him have control and even to make and learn from

mistakes.
