I think that idea is a good one!! I would do it! I only wish I knew about

it when I was pregnant!

> Hi! This is my first time posting a message, but I read all of yours

daily. My name is Nikki. My son age 2.2 was diagnosed with apraxia

about 4 months ago. I started him on PrEfa about 2 months ago and have seen

remarkable improvement!! My question is, we are hoping to get pregnant

again soon and I was wondering if I should start to take ProEfa myself

during pregnancy to help decrease the chances of our next baby having

apraxia. What does everyone think? Please let me know your opinions!

Nikki-

I am 8 months pregnant right now and asked my OB the

exact same question. My OB said not to take the

supplements but rather try to eat an occasional serving

of fish or other omega rich foods. He felt that there

wasn't enough data/proof to back it yet. These are his

opinions.

Hope this helps.

Amy mom to 4.10 apraxic and 1.10

Hi Amy!

One of my closest friends, , who is known professionally as

M.D. (she is an awesome and loved internist out of

Kimball Medical Center in Brick NJ-part of the Barnabas hospital

system) supplemented herself while pregnant-and still does. She was

ahead of the FDA approving the DHA (omega 3) in baby formula since

she EFA supplemented her own baby's formula when she didn't nurse

months before they announced their approval. She recommends EFA

supplementation to all her patients-most who are elderly, with great

results. So if she was your doctor-you already know what her opinion

is. (and yes she will be at the landmark apraxia conference this

Monday/Tuesday for those who want to meet her!)

As a mom, why not do some research yourself and then present your

findings to your OB. He may not have the time, and you may just find

enough opinions (and maybe even facts) to make your OB take a second

look, maybe not for you, but for future patients.

By the way, be careful about eating certain types of fish because of

mercury-especially since you are pregnant. (that is from the FDA and

a fact, not an opinion) Unlike fish, fish oil/supplements do not contain

mercury since mercury binds to protein.

It's ultimately your decision if you want to eat fish or french fries-

but as always, best to make educated choices. (even though when your

pregnant it's more like " crave " choices!!)

By the way, tells her patients that they are " fish dee-fishent "

CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby!! Keep us posted!

Hi Nikki,

I just posted a long msg about EFAs in pregnancy and breastfeeding, so I won't

repeat it all, but...YES!!! Absolutely supplement yourself, starting now. I

strongly believe that in ten years, doctors will be recommending EFAs to all

women even before conception, as they are beginning to do now with folic acid.

EFAs are essential nutrients that almost nobody in America gets enough of.
